Job Summary

The Black women's cognitive aging program within the Memory and Aging Center at the University of California, San Francisco operates research studies to examine the impact of psychosocial and structural level factors that influence Black/African American women's cognitive aging and risk for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD). The program also engages aging community members of the San Francisco Bay Area in arts-based creative aging workshops and brain health education.

Under the supervision of a Clinical Research Supervisor or Principal Investigator (PI), the incumbent will perform entry-level duties related to the support and coordination of clinical studies and community engagement, and may receive training and development to prepare and advance for journey-level work at the next level within the series.

The incumbent may be asked to work off-site some days (and have adequate transportation), supporting the PI to successfully perform outreach activities in San Francisco and the Bay Area to diversify the study population. Part of these outreach duties include, but will not be limited to, assisting with the organization and support of educational brain health events, arts-based workshops, and the creation of community education materials.

They may also be responsible for the coordination of one or more single or multi-site, active or follow-up clinical research studies; help prepare protocols for study initiation; help design flow sheets, data forms and source documents; gather and interpret medical, surgical and laboratory data regarding research participants; may apply understanding of inclusion/exclusion eligibility criteria for protocols; help recruit, enroll, register, schedule and retain study participants; record protocol specific treatments; assist research personnel to keep participants on study schedules; complete study forms to submit to sponsors and/or appropriate agencies; collect, enter and clean data into study databases, maintaining data quality; assist with data analysis; assist with preparation of reports and tables; attend team meetings; and perform other duties as assigned.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $28.48 - $45.80 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities; and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications and presentation skills; excellent organizational skills; and excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively in a diverse team.
  • Attention to details;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Windows.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based environment; project management and coordination skills; ability to prioritize tasks and meet multiple deadlines on concurrent projects.
  • Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with community members, co-workers, & physicians.
  • Ability to successfully work with diverse and underserved populations, Black/African American individuals living in the San Francisco Bay Area. This position will work with research participants who may have unease or unfamiliarity in research or medical settings. The ideal candidate will have some experience with or understanding of cultural and societal factors that may contribute to these circumstances in order to support research operations, and will be able to communicate with research participants.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Demonstrated proficiency with medical terminology.
  • Interest in clinical neuropsychology
  • Experience working with patients or study subjects.
  • Ability to abstract medical data and transfer it to data collection forms or directly into databases.
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative data management
