Job Summary:



As the Associate Vice Chair of Research for Clinical and Translational Science in the Department of Medicine, your role is pivotal in shaping the strategic direction of our research endeavors. You will provide essential guidance to the Vice Chair of Research, focusing on the critical task of translating laboratory discoveries into clinical applications and broader community health improvements.

In this capacity, you will also play a key role in decision-making processes related to the recruitment, retention, and strategic investment in our department's people and programs.

Given the priority we place on research within the Department of Medicine, your efforts in enhancing our research enterprise are vital. You will work to ensure that our department has the necessary programs, structures, and support to excel, particularly in advancing our standing in the NIH Blue Ridge rankings. Reporting directly to the Vice Chair of Research, you will collaborate closely with the Associate Vice Chair of Basic Biomedical Science and the Research Office staff, all of whom are dedicated to achieving our shared goals.

Furthermore, you will engage with our research faculty, who bring innovative ideas, unique perspectives, and significant expertise. By involving these faculty members, you will help guide and implement various initiatives, driving our collective vision forward. Your leadership in these efforts will be instrumental in realizing the department's research ambitions.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Oversee an extensive enterprise of DOM Research Offerings;
  • Provide strategic and practical guidance to the Vice Chair of Research related to research that involves:

    • Translation of research to practice, including comparative effectiveness research, post-marketing studies, clinical outcomes research, as well as health services research (i.e., T3 research)
    • Research related to communities, including population level outcomes research, monitoring of morbidity, mortality, benefits, and risks, and impacts of policy and change (ie., T4 research)
    • If applicable, translation of laboratory findings to patients, including Phase 2 and 3 clinical trials, and controlled studies leading to clinical application and evidence-based guidelines (i.e., T2 research)


  • Work collaboratively and as a team with the Associate Vice Chair of Biomedical Research, providing input on T0-T1 and T2 research where appropriate;
  • Along with the Vice Chair of Research and Associate Vice Chair of Basic Biomedical Research, exercise oversight and authority over the DOM Research Office including its staff, current and future offerings/programmatic activities;
  • Draft program outlines, SOPs, and participate in formation of policies and associated documentation;
  • Participate in planning and execution of Departmental research events, including the annual research day, research achievement Highlight (ReAch) forums, and faculty recognition events;
  • Help with oversight and supervision of various DOM research programs including those promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, and junior faculty development;
  • Assist the Chair of the Department and the Vice Chair of Research with aspects related to faculty retention, recruitment on an as needed basis;
  • Working with the Vice Chair and the research office, collaboratively develop and assess metrics related to research performance and assist with preparation of reports related to the Department's research enterprise;
  • Support the mission of the Department of Medicine to become one of the pre-eminent research organizations in the nation

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Denver.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Associate Professor:



  • Candidates must have a minimum of 7 years of experience in a comparable Department of Medicine and be at the rank of Associate Professor or be eligible for an Associate Professor position with the University of Colorado.
  • Proven experience in all aspects of research operations including but not limited to laboratory personnel and space management, clinical trials, grant development, budget and resource management, faculty and personnel management; preferably 5 years in each area
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience at a divisional, hospital or department level in a research-related role/focus comparable to the current position
  • History of successful NIH funding, publications and mentorship


Professor:



  • Candidates must have a minimum of 8 years of experience in a comparable Department of Medicine and be at the rank of Professor or be eligible for a Professor position with the University of Colorado
  • Proven experience in all aspects of research operations including but not limited to laboratory personnel and space management, clinical trials, grant development, budget and resource management, faculty and personnel management; preferably 5 years in each area
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience at a divisional, hospital or department level in a research-related role/focus comparable to the current position
  • History of successful NIH funding, publications and mentorship

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Associate Professor: $150,000 - $200,000 based on 1.0 FTE, $7,500 annual stipend and 0.20 FTE support (not additional salary)

Professor: $200,000 - $300,000 based on 1.0 FTE, $7,500 annual stipend and 0.20 FTE support (not additional salary)

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
