The Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep Medicine and the Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI) are seeking a Director of the UCSF Airway Clinical Research Center (ACRC) for a full-time faculty position.

The ACRC director will direct a mechanism-oriented clinical research unit focused on clinical studies and clinical trials in patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The ACRC comprises customized research space that allows clinical and biological phenotyping of human subjects. These subjects volunteer for research studies focused on dissecting the molecular subtypes of asthma and COPD and for clinical trials that aim to test the safety and efficacy of precision treatments. The resources of the ACRC are shared by a group of faculty, trainees, and clinical coordinators who focus their research on airway diseases and who collaborate to meet shared challenges in recruitment, study execution, and regulatory compliance. The ACRC director will provide leadership for the center and use the center's resources for his/her own independent research program in airway diseases. The individual will report to the Chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep Medicine.

Minimum Requirements:

* History of independent research funding in obstructive lung diseases

* History of significant contributions to research in obstructive lung disease, as evidenced by a record of high impact publications.

* Experience in recruiting and conducting clinical trials or observational human studies

* Ability to obtain a license to practice medicine in the State of California

Preferred/Desirable Qualifications (optional)

* Board certified/board eligible in Pulmonary Medicine or Allergy/Immunology

* Expertise in translational research

The appointment will be made at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Medicine in the Health Sciences Clinical, Clinical X, Adjunct, or In Residence faculty series.

This role brings multiple opportunities, including:

* Opportunity to lead the ACRC, an established 3,500 square foot center of excellence and innovation in airway disease research and to influence the next stage of the ACRC's direction and activities.

* Opportunity for bench laboratory space, as appropriate, on a floor with a strong lung biology community.

* Start-up funding and recurring support through an Endowed Chair.

* Opportunity to supervise trainees in the UCSF T32 NIH fellowship program in lung research.

* Opportunity to join a strong research environment and collaborative culture at UCSF that includes established connections between the ACRC and world class basic science programs in lung biology, immunology, microbiology, biostatistics, and bioinformatics.

* Opportunity to avail of multiple world class research enabling resources, including those provided by the UCSF Clinical and Translational Science Institute, the UCSF Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, the UCSF CoLabs, the UCSF Bakar ImmunoX Initiative, the UCSF Center for Intelligent Imaging, the UCSF Bakar Computational Health Sciences Institute, and the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Initiative.

* Opportunity to conduct research in the San Francisco Bay Area and to form collaborations with multiple innovative biotechnology and technology companies that are headquartered here.
