Who we are looking for:

We are currently looking for a Senior Manager of Environmental Sustainability to be based out of one of our primary North American locations. Reporting to the Director of Environment, Health and Safety, this person will be responsible for supporting the development and execution of essential cross-segment Environmental programs to achieve world-class performance. This position will be responsible for leading key Sustainability initiatives, supporting top operational leaders within Atkore as an instrumental leader to ensure compliance and best in class environment, social and governance (ESG) performance across the company.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, or related field. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is a plus.

What you'll do:



  • Provide effective leadership and engagement for achieving world-class performance related to environmental sustainability and coordinating all interaction with intercompany resources and external partners in conjunction with current policies and regulations.
  • Provide strategic leadership on actions required to achieve long-term improvements in consumption of natural resources and energy as well as reduction in various types of emissions. Drive Energy Star participation.
  • Develop reporting tools to provide Atkore leadership with progress updates related to environmental initiatives as well as insight into driving further improvements and investments.
  • Provide active leadership and engagement related to all environmental initiatives within Atkore's Sustainability reporting program.
  • Direct continuous improvements to transform Atkore's Environmental culture to one of best-in-class performance. Drive accurate and timely reporting of all environmental metrics.
  • Drive the implementation of the environmental compliance strategy and strategic objectives across Atkore.
  • Assist and/or lead customer and supplier sustainability surveys, questionnaires, and audits for ESG topics.
  • Perform measurements, compliance evaluations, and hazardous waste evaluations with corrective action follow through.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills are required, including the ability to lead cross functional teams, produce and maintain timelines, manage multiple commitments, and assemble project information into clear, concise written reports.
  • Provide hands-on support at the operating site level.
  • Monitor, analyze and evaluate metrics that measure effectiveness of Environmental Strategy implementation and overall compliance, provides updates to leadership and determine the best path forward.
  • Develop and execute information solutions to enable efficient, accurate, and comprehensive reporting and information exchange. Support management and data systems implementation, training and/or compliance as needed.
  • Drive cost reduction and efficiency improvement associated with Environmental-related engineering controls and processes.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate activities of employee(s) to ensure goals or objectives are accomplished. Mentor, coach, train and develop team.
  • Ensure timely submittal, acquisition and maintenance of all environmental permits and reports to maintain compliance with state and federal requirements
  • Regular reporting regarding environmental, energy, Energy Star initiatives and data.
  • Active support and leadership regarding the sustainability report.
  • Implement processes, controls and documentation to ensure on-going third-party assurance readiness for our key environmental metrics related to energy, greenhouse gas emissions, waste, water, etc.
  • Ability to lead, coach, and mentor teams in root-cause/countermeasure analysis.


What you'll bring:



  • Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, or related field - advanced degree (MBA, Master's) preferred.
  • 10 years progressive Environmental leadership experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven leadership.
  • Ability travel either locally, nationally, and/or internationally ~30% of the time.
  • High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications.
  • Significant level of knowledge pertaining to national and Environmental standards and best practices.
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning).
  • Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as internal and external clients.
  • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work with and influence peers and management.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills are required, including the ability to lead cross functional teams, produce and maintain timelines, manage multiple commitments and assemble project information into clear, concise written reports.


Within 3 months, you'll:



  • Complete your Atkore immersion program.
  • Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore's strategy.


Within 6 months, you'll:



  • Begin to develop relationships at the site level and provide hands on support.
  • Provide leadership related to all environmental initiatives within Atkore's Sustainability reporting program.
  • Identify ways to strengthen Atkore's safety and environmental mindset.


Within 12 months, you'll:



  • Have meaningful solution orientated conversations with site leadership regarding Atkore's Sustainability program.
  • Be able to confidently speak on safety related items and initiatives with Senior Leadership.
  • Continue to promote growth opportunities for our Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) program.
