Job Description Summary:

Draper Laboratory is looking for skilled microelectronic and conventional electronics assemblers.

The Senior Tech are responsible for completing various assembly processes according to a detailed set of process instructions. Assisting engineers in applying engineering technology to develop and test product assemblies or components. Devises, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies with supervision. Sets up and tests complete prototype units and subassemblies under operational conditions. Strict adherence to process instructions and documentation requirements is expected.Works closely with a team of engineers and skilled operators.

Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled SMT or microelectronics assembly work under the limited supervision of senior technical personnel (exempt and nonexempt).

  • Is capable of extremely refined hand soldering with solid technique and complex conventional and or microelectronics assembly requiring a high degree of manual dexterity.

  • With limited supervision but adequate training, may operate, clean, maintain, and/or calibrate SMT and/or microelectronics assembly equipment requiring highly skilled and specialized knowledge.

  • With adequate training and limited supervision, performs work of an essentially repetitive nature requiring highly specialized skills for production of deliverable hardware.

  • With limited or no supervision, carefully documents their own work consistent with work unit policy in handwritten form or using common computer-based software such as MS Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, etc.

  • Assists in scientific experiments, test, or process development initiatives under the limited supervision of senior technical personnel (exempt and nonexempt).

  • Supports the execution of acceptance procedures under the limited supervision of senior technical personnel (exempt and non-exempt).

  • At the discretion of the supervisor, performs focused training to enable progression into higher skilled positions.

  • As needed, mentor, train or supervises more junior technicians.

  • Other temporary assignments at the discretion of the supervisor.

Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of cleanroom practices and protocols

  • Knowledge of small scale production environment

  • Proficiency with MS Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook.

Education
Graduate of a two year technical school with at least five years of applicable experience. Experience will not be considered in lieu of the education requirement.

Experience
Minimum 5 years of applicable experience working in a semiconductor process or advanced packaging or production facility.

Additional Job Description:

Draper employees are trained to J-STD-001, IPC-WHMA-A-620 and IPC-7711/7721. Previous experience with these standards or a current certification is valued. Experienced hand soldering professionals are needed.
