  • Teach Automotive Technology classes, whether clock hour (PSAV) vocational or credit (PSV) courses.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Effective classroom performance, including accurate completion of student files, records, and grades for IRSC and appropriate certification agencies

  • Assuming day or night teaching on/off campus

  • Meeting classes on time and being properly prepared.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching Automotive Technology classes; Teaching either clock hour (PSAV) vocational classes or credit (PSV) classes

  • Maintaining competency records of students in classes assigned; Willingness to modify and improve lesson plans of classes assigned

  • Justifying and reporting grades of students in classes assigned, Input and maintain Blackboard (or other Learning Management System adopted by IRSC.)

  • Follow current course outlines, objectives, and evaluation mechanisms for the program

  • Increase use of educational technology in automotive instruction

  • Monitor student attendance and retention and document as required by the administration

  • Grade assignments, enter into Blackboard Gradebook, returning graded assignments to students, and assigning final grades for all students in a timely manner

  • Advise students as it relates to school policies, satisfactory performance, etc.

  • Comply, monitor, and maintain all safety procedures and best practices as required in the automotive industry

  • Maintain professional conduct and behavior in the classroom and, at all times, when he/she is professionally involved with students

  • Display an appropriate and sound attitude toward students, colleagues, supervisors, and the College community at large

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

The qualifications and skill requirements position include:

  • Associate's degree or higher from an accredited institution in the field of Automotive Technology

  • ASE Master Technician Certification (ASE A1-A8)

  • Minimum of one (1) year of proven work experience in automotive maintenance and repair

  • Preference shall be given to the following:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Automotive Technology

  • Three (3) years of proven experience with teaching in the field of automotive technology

  • Good communication skills - both verbal and written

  • Good computer skills including strong foundation in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and current Learning Management Systems.

  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to multi-task

  • Willingness to make students active partners in the teaching/learning process

  • Ability to work independently as well as with student, faculty, staff and co-workers and be self-motivated

  • Valid Florida Driver's License

  • All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical requirements for this position include:

  • Ability to regularly lift and or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to safely lift, hold, and carry up to 50 pounds of supplies and/or equipment needed for student training

  • Manual dexterity and balance required for demonstrating automotive maintenance and repair applications

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time, walk, bend, lift, reach with hands and arms, and stoop

  • Ability to maintain and/or troubleshoot lab equipment in the automotive maintenance and repair lab

  • Ability to present verbal lectures/demonstrations

  • Vision abilities sufficient to include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

  • Ability to travel to and pick up miscellaneous supplies from local vendors for materials for student training and make good purchasing decisions or substitutions

  • Ability to physically demonstrate automotive maintenance and repair methods and tools

  • IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
