Job Summary

Job Summary

The LCSW delivers age-appropriate social work care to patients and their caregivers in accordance with agency policy and procedure, and state and federal regulations. This position serves 2 distinct programs within the UC Davis Healthcare System:

1). The Ambulatory Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
2). The Functional Neurologic Disorders clinic

The LCSW shall adhere to and promote the ethics and values of the social work profession, using the NASW Code of Ethics as a guide to ethical decision making. The LCSW will advocate for the patient's right to self-determination, confidentiality, access to supportive services and resources, and appropriate inclusion in decision making that affects their health and well-being. The LCSW will be an active participant and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team by recognizing and offering services that address the biopsychosocial needs of the patient.

The LCSW position requires a high level of clinical judgement, problem-solving skills, creativity, organizational and priority setting abilities, with excellent communication skills.

The LCSW demonstrates the ability to fulfill these responsibilities through clinical assessment, accurate and sound judgement, and maintaining professional communication. The LCSW may be asked to participate in special projects and collect data to improve the quality of services delivered to our patients. The LCSW must be flexible as changes in technology, healthcare coverage, regulatory requirements, and our patient population may mandate changes to workflow, work standards, and work practices on an as needed basis.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a California Clinical Social Worker License (LCSW), active and unrestricted issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences Examiners is required. License must be current and in good standing.
  • Master's degree from an accredited School of Social Work.
  • Two (2) years' experience providing psychotherapy services and ability to demonstrate use of multiple therapy modalities for individuals & groups.
  • Experience performing psychosocial assessments and case management evaluations including possession of strong interview techniques and ability to conduct Suicide Risk Assessments.
  • Clinical work experience in a social service or healthcare setting (i.e., medical social work, psychotherapy, case management)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in working with individuals with Functional Neurologic Disorders or related conditions.
  • Previous experience working with family members of consumers with major psychiatric disorders or neurocognitive disorders is preferred.
  • Experience with assisting in psychiatric case management services including psychiatric hospitalization and linkage to community resources is preferred.
  • Experience with electronic medical records is preferred.
  • Knowledge of CBT and other short-term psychotherapy modalities is preferred
  • Spanish language skills are strongly preferred. Use of Spanish language skills in a professional context is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with Windows based computers and associated software programs

Department Overview

1). The Ambulatory Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is a collaborative team of nearly 60 faculty, staff, residents, fellows, and trainees who work together to provide a comprehensive range of mental and behavioral health services to a diverse socioeconomic patient population throughout the greater Sacramento area. Specialties in the Department include adult and child psychiatry, integrated behavioral health, women's mental health, medically complex clinics for adults and pediatrics, geriatric psychiatry, advanced psychiatric therapeutics including TMS and esketamine, a substance use disorder treatment clinic, a RESTART trauma recovery program, and an early psychosis clinic. In addition, the Department offers multiple therapy groups for various patient populations and will soon be starting an intensive outpatient program (IOP) in the near future.

2). The Functional Neurologic Disorders clinic is located at the Point West Integrative Medicine clinic, and focuses on the management of Functional Neurologic Disorders, a group of neurological symptoms that cannot be explained by underlying structural or organic abnormalities.

Department Specific Job Scope

1)The LCSW is an integral part of the Ambulatory Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The LCSW serves as an integral member of the Department of Psychiatry's team, providing screening, assessments, care coordination, information and referral to community resources, and other social work services designed to meet the complex needs of patients and families in the clinic setting.The incumbent will be actively involved in providing supportive social work services and case management/coordination to patients and families seeking services in both the Adult and Children's Behavioral Health clinics as well as in the EDAPT (early psychosis) program.

2) The primary role of the LCSW at the Functional Neurologic Disorders Clinic is to assist patients and families/caregivers in coping with the social and emotional issues and practical arrangements related to the patient's illness, as well as promoting the delivery of effective, cost-efficient, quality patient care. The LCSW serves as an integral member of the healthcare team providing assessments, treatment planning, brief individual supportive counseling, co-facilitation of psychoeducational groups, care coordination, information and referral to community resources, and other social work services to meet the complex needs of patients and families seen in the FND clinic.

Work Environment
