CASUAL Ordinary Seaman

Location: Cape May, NJ

Hourly Rate: $16.50 - $18.50

Opening Date: January 2024 Closing Date: Until Filled

I. POSITION SUMMARY
This position is a /casual marine position which includes upkeep of all vessels and related
equipment in accordance with the Captain's and/or Pilot's, Boatswain's instructions. Most
job responsibilities require little or no previous skills. Required to hose, buff, swab, sweep,
and scrub the vessel as well as monitor passenger access/egress areas for safety and
integrity. This position is required to work safely and efficiently in accordance with
instructions, general operating practices, and procedures. Work is focused on immediate
unit with limited awareness of related areas. Work schedules can be modified to fit the
departmental needs which may require the employee to work shift work and/or weekends.
Work is performed indoors/outdoors and can be in any weather condition. This casual
position is part-time with no guaranteed minimum number of hours, nor are there any
guaranteed assignments.

I. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Proper cleaning of vessel's bathrooms
* Trash removal from the vessel on every arrival
* Cleaning and polishing brass/stainless surfaces/windows
* Snow removal and salting to maintain safe footing aboard the vessel
o Other duties as assigned
* Provides the highest level of customer service and professionalism to all internal
and external customers
* Contributes to the safe operation of vessels and equipment
* Responds decisively and effectively to emergency situations

III. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

* Possess excellent customer service skills
* Ability to understand relevant Authority policies and procedures and safety
techniques
* Ability to traverse inclined and vertical ramps and ladders
* Ability to provide superior customer service to everyone by responding in a
courteous and efficient manner

* Decks of vessels

V. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, AND/OR CERTIFICATES

* Valid driver's license
* Valid TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Card)
* Valid MMC (Merchant Mariners Credential) endorsed as Ordinary Seaman

VI. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

* Must be at least 18 years old
* High school diploma or equivalent or equivalent related experience

VII. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

* Subject to a background investigation
* Subject to a pre-employment physical and regulatory drug testing
* Delaware River and Bay Authority requires all employees to have direct deposit
with a financial institution or enroll in the payroll card program to receive their bi-
weekly pay
