We are seeking a technical expert to take the role of a Systems Analyst. The Systems Analyst will participate in a team environment to develop modeling and simulation (M&S) tools as well as utilize those tools to support performance analysis of elements of the Aegis Weapon System (AWS) (e.g. Weapon Control System). You will be joining a hardworking team of engineers and scientists who are passionate about developing high-impact solutions with strong scientific rigor. As a Systems Analyst/Software Developer...

  • You will analyze M&S results to evaluate system performance and identify system capabilities and limitations in support of Navy fleet studies and flight test events. Identify outliers and perform root cause analysis to support verification and validation of M&S tools.
  • You will develop tools in Python and MATLAB to analyze system performance and visualize data in meaningful, innovative ways.
  • You will implement new functionality in models written in C++ to capture current system capabilities as well as support algorithm development for concept and feasibility studies for future capabilities.
  • You will produce documentation on system requirements, software design, technical recommendations, and analysis results. Deliver presentations to technical staff, program leadership, and Sponsors.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Have 1+ years of related professional experience.
  • Are proficient with one or more of the following: MATLAB, Python, and C++.
  • Are familiar with software revision control systems (e.g. Git, Subversion).
  • Are detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Are highly self-motivated to dig into data to root cause issues and to understand system performance.
  • Have strong technical written and oral communication skills.
  • Have the ability to work both independently and as part of a larger team, as well as effective collaboration skills with other teams and contractors.
  • Willingness to travel up to 5% of the time as needed.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You 'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have an MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Have proficiency with Python data science libraries (e.g. NumPy, Pandas).
  • Have experience developing object-oriented C++ software in a Linux environment.
  • Are familiar with Git and debugging tools (e.g. gdb).
  • Are familiar with the Atlassian tool suite (e.g. Confluence, JIRA, Bitbucket, Bamboo).
  • Have experience developing high- or variable-fidelity models and simulations.
  • Have strong interpersonal and communications skills with a desire to take on leadership roles for analysis studies.
  • Have a working knowledge of the Aegis Weapon System and/or Weapon Control System.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
