Primary Purpose Performs concurrent monitoring of patients on telemetry and event monitors to assist in the early identification of cardiac arrhythmias. Minimum Specifications Education - Must have completed a Medical Assistant course that includes EKG OR six months experience interpreting EKG rhythm strips. Experience - None Skills or Special Abilities - Must demonstrate during interview the ability to interpret EKG rhythm strips. - Must be able to demonstrate all telemetry related functions and complete the three day EKG course or take the challenge test with a passing grade of at least 80% within the 90 day probationary period. Responsibilities 1. Monitors assigned telemetry patients and using judgement, notifies hospital personnel when patient needs special attention or care. 2. Maintains records pertaining to telemetry procedures to ensure proper documentation of events. Responsible for reports of patients telemetry status to physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare staff. 3. Provides event monitoring services ensuring prompt, professional services. Monitors patient EKG strips, informing patient of proper transmission procedures and proper system referrals. Confers with physician regarding Event Monitor results. 4. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the Cardiographic area. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding. 5. Maintains supplies and completes purchase orders necessary for lab maintenance. Maintains equipment to prevent interrupted operations. 6. Interprets fairly complex EKG patterns, providing medical staff with diagnostic or physician contraindications. 7. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and PHHS. 8. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field of Telemetry/EKG by attending seminars/workshops and reading professional journals. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices. 9. Delivers reports to nursing units and other Cardiovascular Services to ensure transference of information. Delivers other items and paperwork as required.
