Hiring/Budgeted Salary or Hourly Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $25.77/hr. to $26.31/hr.

Full Salary Range: The full salary range for this position is $25.77/hr. to $43.58/hr. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.

Work Location: UNIV-2537C

Working Days and Hours: The schedule will vary depending on the needs of the department

Brief Summary of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the AS Management Group the A.S. Special Program Advisor works as a team member to advise committees in Associated Students, as assigned. Provides overall guidance in A.S. policies and procedures as well as ensures adherence to University policy. Provides some administrative assistance as needed to the committees in the assignment area.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years Experience in a higher education administrative, student services, or academic role

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Knowledge of University processes and procedures.
  • 1-3 years Experience working in budget and/or financial analysis.
  • 1-3 years Experience working in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • 1-3 years Experience working with diverse populations
  • 1-3 years Experience developing and delivering workshops and presentations
  • Basic knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Skills in active listening, and critical thinking.
  • Abilities in problem identification, reasoning.
  • Ability to multi-task, verbal communication, written communication and organization skills.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

  • 90% Advising - Under the direction of an A.S. Manager, advises 4-6 committees in Associated Students as assigned. Provides orientation and training programs for Chairs and Commissioners of committees in the assignment area. Notifies chairs of leadership and training opportunities and recommends various programs pertinent to their committees. Serves as a resource for students; engages in extensive student contact in the areas of counseling, community development, conflict resolution, works closely with student-elected or appointed officials in the maintenance of records and the spending of student government funds. Advise students in formulating budgets in the annual budget process. Assists in understanding policy and monitors processing of necessary paperwork for committees' budgets. Assists key student leaders in their honoraria responsibilities by reviewing their responsibilities and helping students define their goals in a tangible and reportable manner. Assists in event planning including: calendaring events, scheduling facilities, contracts with speakers or performers, networking activities, transportation, coordination with other organizations and compliance with regulations. Attends committee meetings and events, often in the evening. Working with student leaders, identifies target groups for recruitment into the committees within assignment area. Provides research and guidance in areas of interest to groups within assigned area. Assist students in finding and attending workshops or conferences in the area of interest as funding permits. Advises groups in finding appropriate outlets for communication, advertising, public outreach and dissemination of information.
  • 10% Administrative Support - Assists students within the advisement area, or assigned by the A.S. Executive Director by providing administrative support in a variety of areas. These may include assistance with meeting minutes, documentation of funds given out by various groups, tracking of funds, database support, filing systems, office procedures, creation of various forms and manuals or ticket office and cashiering support.
