Job Description

The Pharmacist post graduate year 2 (PGY2) resident provides pharmaceutical care during all learning experiences and service component throughout the organization in a fashion that adheres to current regulations and laws. This position is responsible for completing all goals and objectives and required competencies for individual learning experiences and the overall residency program. This position is responsible for acting as an information resource to patients, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding medication therapy and drug-related information and literature. This position is responsible for the filling and dispensing of medication orders including the proper handling, usage, and storage of drugs in the pharmacy, and maintains standards set by the department and translates policies and procedures into the daily operation of the pharmacy. The Pharmacist post graduate year 2 (PGY2) resident position is designed to be a 12-month position but may be extended if needed.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the pharmacy as defined by the scope of service to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed.
  • Responsible for training, supervising, educating, and checking the work of supportive personnel and students; and for serving as preceptor to pharmacy students.
  • Assumes supervisory responsibilities as required, for the coordination of weekend and evening shifts which include supervising supportive personnel, assigning work and delegating tasks and responsibilities, and for handling problems that arise during the absence or unavailability of the director of pharmacy services.
  • Leading and participating in the procurement, development, implementation, customization, management, evaluation, and continuous improvement of clinical information systems.
  • Responsible for supporting the core processes involving information and knowledge delivery throughout the clinical knowledge life cycle.
  • Responsible for managing medication-related information while promoting integration, interoperability, and information exchange.
  • Responsible for conducting in-service education lectures for medical staff, nurses, pharmacists, students, and other health care personnel regarding drugs, procedures, and policies.
  • Responsible for intradepartmental communication by staff meeting and in-service attendance. Also responsible for knowing content of departmental staff meeting minutes and memos. Maintains a working knowledge of the pharmacy policy and procedure manual.
  • Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursues professional growth and development.
  • Satisfactorily completes all requirements for completion of the residency.


Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • Doctorate Pharmacy Required

Minimum Work Experience

  • 1-3 years completion of post graduate year one residency program Required
  • 1-3 years Previous pharmacy informatics experience (projects/rotations) Required

Licenses and Certifications

  • Pharmacist Licensed State of Florida within 120 Days Required

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Basic computer skills including MS Office and the internet. (High proficiency)
  • Ability to research scientific literature. (High proficiency)
  • Good communication skills. (High proficiency)
