MANAGER, MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING (STARLINK PCBA) As the Manager for Starlink PCBA Manufacturing Engineering at SpaceX, you will lead manufacturing engineering efforts to design, build, and continuously improve our high-volume Starlink Product SMT lines. You will be responsible for ensuring that all PCBA production and test processes are performing with the highest levels of safety, quality, and rate. You will be involved in all aspects of production including equipment selection, facilities planning, staffing, leadership development, and new product introduction. You will own the relationship between engineering, supply chain, and production teams for your product line. Additionally, you will provide inputs to engineering teams regarding area capability and design for manufacturability. We are looking for a driven and motivated professional to join our world-class team and help solve dynamic production and operational challenges required to hit rate. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage a team of engineers and specialists for the Starlink PCBA manufacturing team on a 2-shift structure
- Responsible products and processes will include SMT nominal production, supporting process development, rework processes, and testing
- Lead the team through all phases of the product life cycle while ensuring all standards and requirements are upheld
- Responsible for implementing plug-and-play processes to production that are capable of high-volume throughput across multiple lines (3M+ per year)
- Act as the technical decision maker and advisor to the team on manufacturing techniques and test methods that will enable building various subassemblies at rate
- Align department initiatives with the goals and responsibilities of the manufacturing engineering team
- Ensure a strong focus is placed on safety, and maintain an excellent safety record
- Lead the overall manufacturing development strategy for the areas under ownership for key metrics: quality, delivery, and cost. Actively measure team's performance against these metrics
- Manage team's technical documentation strategy and ensure records are up-to-date
- Manage and mentor manufacturing engineers, specialists, and interns on the team. Evaluate project scope according to team's skillset including labor and resourcing estimation
- Recruit, develop, train, and retain world class leaders and individual contributors who will deliver for the business and amplify each team they interact with.
- Take direct ownership of the physical production layout, optimizing for material flow from material receiving through processes on the line
- Manage strategy for production line tooling, inventory, training, maintenance, and build process and ensure all are updated according to the latest design configuration
- Responsible for influencing design to increase product manufacturability
- Drive design for test (DFT) best practices and design for manufacturing (DFM) with design engineers and test engineers
- Identify automation opportunities and establish requirements as well as evaluating return on investment for each. Work with in-house resources or vendors as necessary to develop these solutions and implement on production line
- Monitor and communicate area status, readiness, and risks to leadership
- Positively impact and improve every aspect of life at SpaceX through motivational leadership to drive the business forward
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced degree and 2+ years of experience working in one or more of the following; OR bachelor's degree and 4+ years of experience working in one or more of the following; OR 8+ years of experience working in one or more of the following:
- Engineering
- Production
- Manufacturing
- Operations
- 2+ years of direct leadership/management experience leading engineers
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master's degree in an engineering discipline
- 4+ years of experience in a leadership role in a manufacturing environment and transitioning products from development into production
- High degree of comfort on the factory floor, working to identify and execute efficiency improvements in all aspects of production and manufacturing
- Demonstrated capability to solve complex problems with little to no supervision on schedule as an individual or as a member of an integrated team using appropriate problem-solving tools
- Experience with the design and manufacturing of high reliability electronics assemblies
- Technically well-rounded and displays a proficiency in electronics manufacturing techniques, processes and equipment including a strong working knowledge of EEE piece parts, PCB, PCBA, lamination, electromechanical, test
- Ability to develop and maintain high performing suppliers and contract manufacturers
- Experience working in a highly adaptive and iterative environment
- Experience implementing automation into production processes
- Experience transitioning products from design to manufacturing and scaling to high volume as part of a cross-functional team
- Experience with design of experiments, gauge repeatability and reproducibility, and process qualifications
- Experience defining production data requirements and statistical process control
- Experience with NX and Teamcenter
- Experience working with and defining requirements for ERP, MRP and MES systems
- Ability to work well in an integrated team including daily interactions with technicians, engineers, and managers.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach growing leaders

- Must be willing to work flexible and/or extended hours to meet the needs of the role
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs. unassisted
- Able to travel for short business trips as needed (up to 15%)

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Pay range: Manager: $150,000.00 - $190,000.00/per year Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience. Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
