The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Technician B will work closely with the Pl and research team in the Basic Science Research Group in the Division of Surgical Science at Department of Surgery at Columbia University. The technician B will perform multiple assignments under direct supervision

Responsibilities

Assisting with the designing and implementing of experiments critical to the lab, which may include molecular cloning, animal work, Western blotting, lmmunohisochemistry analysis.



  • Perform laboratory experiments and collect data.
  • Contribute to research implementation.
  • Assist with ordering laboratory supplies.
  • Maintaining a lab notebook or records related to task
  • Assisting in the collection of lab chemical wastes.
  • Managing and maintaining mouse colonies, cutting mouse tails and Excel Data entry.
  • Preparing solutions, isolating DNA, performing PCR, preparing and running agarose gels, detecting DNA and recording the results.
  • Prepare solutions and reagents for daily lab use.
  • Calibration/upkeep of laboratory equipment.
  • Interact with personnel from other related research projects.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or physics or a completed animal husbandry program or equivalent in education, training and experience. Knowledge of various related laboratory procedures and techniques preferred. One year of related experience preferred

  • Ability to perform work in accordance with safety regulations and standard laboratory protocols
  • Knowledge of related laboratory procedures and techniques
  • Excellent organization skills
