Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Non-Invasive Laboratory, the Supervisor will be responsible for supervising the daily operational, human resource, administrative and business functions and leadership of these respective clinical areas for both Pediatric Echocardiography Lab and Fetal Cardiovascular Program. The Supervisor provides expertise in managing technical and clinical innovation in the labs, including oversight of service contracts and provision of staff training.

The Cardiovascular Supervisor serves as a role model and resource for the Pediatric Echo and Fetal Labs. S/he provided clinical leadership and service coordination to assure consistently high quality care and facilitates continuous improvement. The supervisor is responsible for managing equipment and supplies; trains current and new staff on how to perform echocardiograms and fetal echocardiograms. The Cardiovascular Supervisor is also responsible for ensuring quality assurance and quality control of all testing equipment, day to day operations, and updating manual of operation and procedures. The position oversees employees, enforces policies and procedures and monitors productivity. S/he will solve daily clinical, program and operational conflicts. S/He will maintain compliance accreditation and re-accreditation for certification requirements for the fetal and echocardiogram labs.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. The salary range of this position is $50.72 - $108.19 hr.

Please note: An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

Required Qualifications


  • Five to seven years work experience in a hospital-based pediatric echo lab environment
  • Must be able to perform scanning responsibilities if assigned staff are cancelled or unable to cover
  • Completion of an approved cardiac sonographer training curriculum program.
  • Current registration as a cardiac sonographer (RDCS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), in Pediatrics
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Demonstrates subject matter knowledge of relevant cardiovascular services. Ability to apply principles to procedures in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills in training and guiding employees. Motivates and inspires staff to improve cardiovascular services.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment.
  • Ability to organize assigned staff and unit operations in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with assigned staff, patients, and interdisciplinary team members part of the cardiovascular patient care.
  • Skills to evaluate issues and identify solutions within defined procedures and policies. Demonstrated ability to solve problems and suggest solutions through critical thinking process.
  • Verbal and written communication skills to explain technical cardiovascular concepts, actively listen, persuade, advise, and counsel.
  • Advanced knowledge of organization's cardiovascular testing equipment and technology to troubleshoot issues and recommend improvements.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Minimum three years of lead or supervisor experience of a cardiovascular diagnostic laboratory in pediatrics
  • Familiarity with billing procedures and revenue management in a health care environment
  • Current registration as a cardiac sonographer (RDCS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), in Adults

License/Certification


  • Current registration as a cardiac sonographer (RDCS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), in Pediatrics
