About the Position

The Program Clinician provides treatment and clinical support in substance abuse treatment programs, supports the REDEEM (Recovering Enduring Dignity Education Empower Mindfulness) Substance Abuse Program, and teaches Alcohol and Drug Education. This position works with inmates in a secure facility and acts as a liaison within the jails, community, and public agencies.

Position Qualifications

Education

  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a closely related field.

Experience

  • Two (2) years of full-time, post-master's supervised work experience in psychotherapy, including assessments, diagnosis, and treatment.

Other requirements

  • Completion of clinical training hours necessary to achieve independent licensure.
  • A valid unrestricted license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor (LISAC), or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
  • Must be licensed by the Arizona State Board of Behavioral Health Examiners at the time of hire.
  • A current CPR certification depending on assignment.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire.
  • Training that may be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS - IS100 and 700; Safety; Payroll; PREA.
  • Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass a background review.

Our Preferred Candidate has

  • Supervisor Certification from the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners.
  • Bi-lingual in English/Spanish.

Essential Job Tasks

(This is not an all-inclusive list of all job duties that may be required; employees will be required to perform other related duties as assigned.)

  • Provides professional level treatment, clinical support, and services to inmates in the REDEEM Substance Abuse Treatment Program.
  • Facilitates substance abuse education classes.
  • Facilitates the cognitive curriculum "Thinking for a Change" group.
  • Provides direct inmate counseling one-on-one services.
  • Plans and conducts group counseling sessions.
  • Conducts comprehensive assessments of bio-psycho-social conditions and documents findings.
  • Assists inmates in rebuilding relationships, improving communication skills, and removing obstacles for their recovery.
  • Writes and maintains informative progress notes on inmates.
  • Creates and maintains inmate files for each group contact in accordance with state standards.
  • Interfaces with community organizations to plan and coordinate strategies to improve social and public problems.
  • Provides crisis intervention; makes determinations as to stability and wellbeing of individuals.
  • Research, plans, and develops curriculum for improved and expanded services; identifies available resources.
  • Conducts and/or participates in regular client staffing meetings.
  • Represents the Office at meetings, conferences, and presentations.
  • Acts as a liaison within the jails, the community, and public agencies.

Work occurs primarily indoors working in MCSO jail facilities with various staff and all classifications of inmates.

The hiring authority will select the successful candidate based on departmental needs.
