Description

University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

Department: Immunology & Microbiology

Job Title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Position #00819780: - Requisition #:32657

Job Summary:

The laboratory of Laurel L. Lenz, located in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, is recruiting a motivated postdoctoral fellow to contribute as a key member of our cutting-edge NIH-funded research program. Work in the lab seeks to dissect how inflammatory responses are regulated and how this regulation affects susceptibility during bacterial infections and virus-bacterial co-infections. A variety of advanced techniques and methods are employed, including cellular immunology, single cell analyses, molecular biology, omics technologies, genetics, biochemistry, and bioinformatics. Cell culture and in vivo infection models are employed. Fellows in the lab group perform and publish cutting-edge high impact research that betters understanding of immunity, infection, and inflammation and improves human health. They also receive mentorship and training that prepares them for future success in academic or other science and research-focused careers.

Current projects in the laboratory are investigating:

  • Dendritic cell targeting by bacterial immune modulating proteins and how this activates and elicits regulatory activity in natural killer cells.
  • Molecular and cellular immune responses that promote susceptibility to bacterial pneumonia in individuals recovering from respiratory viral infections.

The successful candidate is expected to be highly motivated, have ample scientific curiosity, have strong interpersonal skills, and be able to contribute in a positive manner to the collegial atmosphere of the laboratory and the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate will work with the principal investigator to develop research projects, prepare presentations, manuscripts, and fellowship applications.
  • Collaborate with other members of the laboratory to plan, execute, and document results of well-controlled and rigorous research.
  • Assemble research data for grant submissions, manuscripts, and other publications.
  • In the context of current literature and research findings, analyze data and datasets.
  • Assist in the mentoring of junior lab members.
  • Other activities necessary for optimal laboratory functioning, including assigned chores and responsibilities.
  • Apply for fellowship funding.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.
