Job Summary:



The University of Colorado School of Medicine's Department of Emergency Medicine has an exciting opening for a full-time Emergency Medicine and Trauma Research Assistant Professor to serve as an investigator within a multi-disciplinary global trauma research program.

Key Responsibilities:




  • This full-time (1.0 FTE) position will serve as an investigator at the rank of Research Assistant professor and will collaborate with study colleagues at all levels of the organization



  • This position will work both independently and in close collaboration with the C3 Network's Principal Investigator, Dr. Nee-Kofi Mould-Millman, MD PhD MSCS, as well as collaborators and research staff domestically and internationally



  • To enable the incumbent to understand the international context and effectively supervise research activities, international travel is a requirement of the position There will also be opportunities for domestic travel to present research at conferences and to stakeholders.



  • A variety of rigorous observational and interventional methodologies are used to fill contemporary clinical knowledge gaps



  • The C3 Network has a track record of NIH and U.S. Department of Defense funding, including dozens of published peer-reviewed manuscripts and scientific presentations



  • . Our research also deliberately seeks to fill clinical and scientific gaps for civilians worldwide and the U.S. military



  • The C3 Global Trauma Network conducts innovative, collaborative, federally-funded trauma care research, predominantly in high-trauma international settings



  • This is a faculty position in the CU School of Medicine, hence the applicant is required to satisfy other typical requirements of a research faculty position including those needed for promotions. These include having a well-formulated career development plan including a short- and long-term strategy to attain expertise and reputation in a specific field. Remote Work: This is an in-person position on the Anschutz Medical Campus of the University of Colorado.

Supervision Received: This position will operate under the direction of the C3 Network Principal Investigator. The position will also report to the Vice Chair for Research and Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine.

Supervision Exercised: This position may train and supervise team members on specific tasks.

The Department of Emergency Medicine conducts research in areas such as trauma, injury prevention, opioid misuse, critical care, mental health, pharmacogenomics, toxicology, global health, and healthcare policy. The Department of Emergency Medicine is excited to recruit a doctoral-level, quantitatively-oriented, highly-motivated, trauma and injury researcher to contribute to clinical and epidemiologic research focused on life-threatening injuries. Ideal candidates will have a strong understanding of physiology and clinical study design. This position will play a key role, as a research investigator, within the Cape-Colorado-Combat (C3) Global Trauma Network's research team. The researcher in this position will be appointed to, and build a career in, the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.




  • Doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, MD, DO, MBChB, DrPH, ScD, DNP, DPT)



  • Track record of human subjects research in an acute care related field



  • Proven understanding of human physiology (e.g., through coursework, publications, or active field of research)`



  • Multiple first author peer-reviewed scientific publications in health journals



  • Experience preparing and submitting grants (as co-I or PI)



  • Team science experience (i.e., assumed a major or leadership role in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary research team)




Preferred Qualifications:




  • Research in a clinical setting (e.g., emergency room, ICU, rehabilitation clinic, physiology clinic, etc.)



  • Experience in emergency medicine, critical care, injury, and/or trauma



  • Demonstrated ability to lead a research team and execute projects



  • Post-doctoral fellowship training, especially with external grant-writing experience



  • Interest in global health, resource-poor settings, high-risk populations, disadvantaged populations, or military populations



  • Statistics training and experience at intermediate level (e.g., can develop and run own multivariable regression models, time-series analyses, and survival plots, etc.)



  • Experience with design or analysis in clinical trials



  • Experience conducting epidemiology or research with large or complex datasets



  • Presentation at national or international scientific meetings (oral preferred over posters)



  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$95,000 - $125,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
