Position description

The Department of Surgery at the University of California, Davis, Health located in Sacramento, California, seeks to fill a full-time Academic Plastic Surgeon position with a specialty in Breast and Microsurgery. The position is being recruited at the assistant or associate professor level in the Health Science Clinical, Clinical X, or In-Residence series. UC Davis is a large volume Level I Trauma Hospital with an NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center and a Level I Children's Surgical Center.

Our Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons have advanced training in microsurgery and specialize in microsurgical procedures which utilize state-of-the-art operating microscopes and precision instrumentation to perform intricate operations. The selected candidate is expected to engage in the teaching and practice of plastic and reconstructive surgery of patients with facial wounds, congenital deformities and/or breast reconstructive needs; including clinical care both inpatient and outpatient; microsurgery, and basic science/translational research trials relating to reconstructive surgery and clinical outcomes.

The selected candidate will be appointed at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the Clinical X, In-Residence or HSCP series depending on experience and qualifications. Expectations of a Clinical X series are to engage in teaching, research, service and clinical work, appointees in the In-Residence series are required to participate in teaching, research, University/public service, and patient care and appointees of the HSCP series are to engage in clinical work, teaching and to support departments research mission.

This recruitment is conducted at the assistant/associate rank. The resulting hire will be at the assistant/associate rank, regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

* Qualified candidates must have an M.D. degree

* Must be board certified or board eligible in Plastic Surgery

* Have a commitment to research activity

* All candidates must have the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

  • Must acquire a CA Medical License before the appointment start date
  • Completed a fellowship in Microsurgery

Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)

  • Fellowship training is highly preferred
  • Understanding of plastic and reconstructive surgery of patients with facial wounds, congenital deformities and/or breast reconstructive needs, microsurgery, and basic science/translational research trials relating to reconstructive surgery and clinical outcomes
