Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaboration with EMT and Paramedic program directors and faculty to meet EMS program outcomes.
- Instruction and evaluation of theoretical knowledge, psychomotor skills and affective competencies in the EMT/Paramedic programs.
- Demonstration of safe patient management, professional behavior and sound judgment.
- Demonstration of current knowledge and technical expertise in field of emergency medicine.
- Demonstration of oral and written communication skills and team work.
- Organization, evaluation, continuous review and development, of classroom, lab and /or clinical experiences for students enrolled in the EMS program.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of an Associate of Science degree in Emergency Medical Services or Nursing from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with a minimum of 2-3 years proven credentialed professional experience in EMS field;
- Bachelor's degree in the discipline of EMS or a related health field from a regionally accredited institution; Master's degree preferred;
- Certification by the State of Florida, Department of Health and the division of Emergency Medical Services as a Paramedic and have the related valid Florida State license;
- Current knowledge and technical skill in the field of clinical emergency medicine;
- Competence with Microsoft Office applications and internet based instructional platforms;
- Appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
Preference will be given to:
- Instructor certifications in ACLS, ITLS, PALS, PEPP or CPR;
- Experience in college level instruction including curriculum/program planning, and student evaluation;
- Knowledge of accreditation standards and processes in an accredited EMS program.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Instructing courses which may include lecture, laboratory, and/or clinical rotations to meet the overall course objectives and program goals.2.Overseeing the preparation, assignment, supervision and maintenance of documentation of students for class, lab, ride time or while on clinical rotations.3.Evaluating student progress using multiple teaching methodologies, and maintaining accurate student records.4.Supporting student success through counseling, advising, and assisting individual students.5.Maintaining positive communication with college employees and affiliating health care agencies.6.Participating in department, division and college adjunct meetings.7.Maintaining equipment and supplies on assigned campus(es).8.Participating actively in professional activities such as, but not limited to, curriculum planning, accreditation process, syllabus writing, examination development, textbook selection, program evaluation/revision and other professional planning activities on a year-round a basis.9.Maintaining an active program of professional development related to individual, professional, and institutional needs.10.Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, and stoop. This position also requires sufficient eyesight to observe patients, manipulate equipment and evaluate procedural results; sufficient hearing to assess patient needs and communicate verbally with students and other health care providers; sufficient verbal and written skills to communicate needs promptly and effectively in English; sufficient gross and fine motor coordination to respond promptly to the patient's needs, manipulate equipment, lift a minimum of 30 pounds, participate as a team member of four in moving a 150 pound incapacitated patient, and ensure overall patient safety. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.
