Position Summary:
The Assistant Director is responsible for the
management of one or more federal, state, and institutional programs. Assists
and supports the director in the administration of student financial aid
programs in compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations. The
position reports to the Executive Director of Student Financial Aid Services
with some functional supervision by the Associate Director.

Essential Functions:
-
Manage one or more federal, state and institutional financial aid programs.
This includes ensuring compliance, developing and maintaining written
procedures in the administration of the program, setting and following an
annual schedule of activities and deadlines required to administer the
program, monitoring and overseeing program budget, and reconciling student
aid and/or scholarship fund accounts.
- Analyze, interpret and follow federal, state and institutional regulations
and guidelines in administering the various federal, state, private and
institutional student aid and scholarship programs.
- Prepare reports and records to insure fiscal accountability of financial aid
programs.
- Perform student aid needs analysis, verification of financial data and other
criteria to confirm student aid eligibility, federal state and institutional
financial aid award packaging, process and originate educational loans for
students and parents, and other procedures necessary to deliver financial aid
to students.
- Counsel and advise students on the student aid application process with a focus
on, eligibility requirements, needs analysis, process for change in financial
circumstances, rights and responsibilities regarding student aid, academic
progress requirements and procedures for appealing, and other information
related to student scholarships, grants, work and loans.

Additional Functions:
- Assist the director in establishing and implementing financial aid
guidelines, policies and procedures. Assist in the development and
maintenance of Policy and Procedures Manual.
- Conduct Student Financial Aid
workshops and Debt Counseling presentations as well as attend Open House and
other student outreach efforts offered in the evening or the weekends.
-Perform other related duties.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
-
A Bachelor's degree is required. A minimum of three years of professional
financial aid experience.
- Experienced with managing a comprehensive and robust
financial aid program.
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state financial
aid regulations, needs analysis, student budgets, financial aid packaging,
professional judgment policies, cflags, debt management, and federal, state and
private grants, scholarships, work and loan programs.
- At
the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be
exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the
university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically
preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
-
Master's Degree. Experienced with working in similar mid-size public
University with a STEM focus. Experience in SAP processing and/or another
financial aid program such as Pell, State Grants, or Private Loans. Banner
ERP, Microsoft Applications (Excel formulas, pivot tables, and Vlook Up) and
other tools.
- The incumbent should have analytical abilities to identify a
business problem and utilize technologies to solve it.
- Effective public
speaking and interpersonal/counseling skills are required.
- Ability to handle
multiple tasks and complete various projects within designated deadlines.

- Strong administrative and leadership abilities as a professional staff member
are required.
- Must have excellent written and oral communication and
organizational skills, be a self-starter and require minimal supervision, pay
careful attention to detail, have excellent customer service skills, presents
him or herself in a professional manner, maintain a team-oriented spirit
within the department and it's constituents, and has a strong commitment to
higher education.
