Job Summary

The Anderson lab at the UCSF Diabetes center is looking for a highly motivated Staff Research Associate to assist with a project studying immune tolerance and mouse models of autoimmunity.

The candidate will perform experiments as directed by a postdoctoral fellow or senior researcher, and training will be provided. Studies will include a variety of cellular and molecular laboratory techniques, including harvesting and processing of mouse lymphoid organs, multicolor flow cytometry, cloning and expression of T-cell receptor genes in retroviral systems, tissue culture, qPCR, PCR, and related methods.

Additionally, a significant focus will be on antibody discovery using phip-seq technology (phage display technology). There will also be occasional animal work that will include mouse colony management, genotyping, bleeding and tissue collection. Strong organizational skills are required.

This position represents an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to basic laboratory skills as well as experience in immunology, molecular biology and mouse disease models in a strong research environment.

Unique among diabetes facilities nationwide, our Diabetes Center unites the research, clinical care and education aspects of diabetes into a comprehensive program to improve the quality of life of those living with diabetes.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree in a biological sciences program including one year of related experience; and/or an equivalent combination of experience
  • Basic knowledge in tissue culture and basic cell and molecular biology protocols (including Flow Cytometry, PCR, immunohistochemistry, transfection/infection of cultured cells)
  • Strong organizational and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work with diverse team of researchers, scientists, and students
  • Ability to work independently, exercising judgment and initiative

Preferred Qualifications


  • Theoretical knowledge of immunology
  • Basic knowledge of animal care, including colony management and genotyping
  • Practical bench work in biomedical research lab
