Position Description: Plan, organize, supervise, and complete surveying activities on construction projects. Lead, direct, and coordinate work of Turner Trade Rodman employees. Manage schedule delivery, quality of work performed, and adherence to project budget and safety. Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, supervise, and complete surveying activities throughout duration of construction projects.
- Foster a workplace environment where all people demonstrate the highest standards of care of each other using Turner's Active Caring philosophy with teams, subcontractors, and clients.
- Fully comprehend scopes of work per plans and specifications to complete surveying activities.
- Collaborate with project team to create schedules and determine sequencing of work.
- Identify drawing discrepancies that could affect overall building layout and inform project team.
- Determine and establish baseline building control and work points.
- Calculate coordinates and layout points based on project documents.
- Perform as-built surveys and prepare data electronically for submission to owner.
- Oversee and/or maintain cleanliness and functionality of surveying equipment including tracking of calibrations.
- Inventory supplies and order supplies with approval as needed.
- Ensure security of equipment and work area while conducting operations.
- Collaborate with EH&S and Quality Control teams for overall site safety and quality programs.
- Ensure Trade employees, subcontractors, and vendors to comply with Turner standards, safety codes, regulations, and jobsite security.
- Display high level of teamwork, integrity, commitment, and leadership in daily operations.
- Fully understand work instructions, project signage, and safety instructions from tool and equipment manufacturers and prepare and inspect tools prior use to ensure safe and working condition (e.g., charging batteries).
- Participate in daily Pre-Task Plans, follow safety expectations for operation of equipment and tools, select appropriate equipment for performing work, adhere to safety protocols to perform work, and wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protection Equipment).
- Develop surveying work schedules and delegate assignments to crew.
- Identify, communicate, and escalate problems and issues to project site team for immediate resolution.
- Track production of completed tasks.
- Review, complete, and submit as required daily documentation for time sheets, production sheets, extra work tickets, daily construction reports (DCRs), and safety paperwork.
- Work closely with Superintendent to resolve local area problems related to procedures, precedence, design clarifications, adequate labor, equipment schedule, and other related matters.
- Maintain positive working relationships with customers, contractors, suppliers, and other employees.
- Participate in external interviews for Trade surveyor positions and provide feedback on candidates to interviewer lead.
- May operate equipment including forklifts, backhoe, skid steer, excavator, compactors, and construction hoist.
- May engage in activities requiring operation of project or personal vehicle.
- Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience required or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Must have and maintain active OSHA 30-hour certification or willing to pursue certification
- Ability to lead, delegate, engage with and motivate teams
- Advanced use of surveying equipment such as builder's level, lasers, laser levels, total stations, and robotic total stations
- Proficient in CAD (Computer Aided Design) or surveying-based programs
- Strong planning and analysis skills
- Able to think critically and use good judgment to solve problems
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret construction contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedule to execute work activities
- Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills with ability to apply active listening skills and engage with all levels of teams, clients, business partners, and management
- Moderate computer skills to utilize company and project applications (e.g., smart phone/iPad)
- Proficient knowledge of Environmental Health Safety (EH&S) processes and regulations
- Ability to develop team members and deliver performance feedback
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to travel using various modes (e.g., automobile, train, air) and accommodate night and weekend work as needed
- Valid state Driver's License (CDL) to travel as needed using personal or company vehicles, as applicable
