Position description

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES RESEARCH IN SPECIALIZED AREAS: (90%) Jr. Specialist will work under the direction of Dr. Nipavan Chiamvimonvat as the Principal Investigator on specific research projects that are part of the NIH HeartShare Clinical Center, AHA SFRN, and the Complex Care Laboratory. Accordingly, Jr. Specialist will directly interact and collaborate with personnel affiliated with research activities involving heart failure research under the direction of Dr. Chiamvimonvat. The main responsibilities as Junior Specialists in the Complex Care Laboratory will include investigating deep phenotyping in HFpEF development and progression across underserved populations. This involves maintaining research materials, and working actively on participant recruitment, and REDCap management. Furthermore, they will be reviewing and presenting journal articles as well as engaging in discussions on research and the interpretation of research results. Jr. Specialist will participate in appropriate professional/technical societies or groups and other educational and research organizations; and, review research proposals, journal manuscripts, and publications related to the areas of expertise. Our aim is that Jr. Specialist will be working independently and as part of our team in the Complex Care Laboratory, AHA and the NIH HeartShare Clinical Center.

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE AND ACTIVITY: (5%) The Junior Specialist will have opportunities to participate in appropriate local University conferences in the field of cardiology and participate in and contribute to other academic activities such as preparation and presentation of research posters, as applicable.

UNIVERSITY AND PUBLIC SERVICE: (5%) The Junior Specialist will be expected to minimally participate in training activities, such as scheduling, training, and helping undergraduate student assistants in various research procedures that the specialist is proficient in. The Junior Specialist will be provided opportunities to participate in lab meetings, as appropriate.

TERM OF APPOINTMENT: One year with the possibility to extend to two years maximum. 100% appointment.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Bachelor's degree in a biological science or related field.

Basic laboratory skills, and a willingness to learn new techniques.

Interaction with community members in research project recruitment.

Interest in cardiovascular research.

Demonstrated organizational experience in maintaining records.

Demonstrated interpersonal skills necessary to work with a diverse team from different backgrounds and varying skill levels for the purpose of assisting and teaching.

Ability to conduct library and database searches and synthesize acquired knowledge effectively in writing and apply it to research processes.

Experience working collaboratively.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Individual should have lived experience working with underserved communities and working in participant recruitment previously.

Bonus, individual should have previous experience working in the healthcare setting.
