The Career Practicum Instructor for the Pathways in Technology Early College High School (PTECH) program collaborates with internal and external partners to provides related educational services and work-based learning experiences for students in a skills-based learning environment. The Career Practicum Instructor serves all students by building linkages with the school staff, business/industry representatives, postsecondary educational personnel, parents, and civic and community organizations. In addition, collaborating with the school staff and coordinating the support services of the business community, the PTECH Coordinator facilitates students' transition into the workplace through their enrollment in the High School P-TECH program.

  • Provides students with an opportunity to acquire understanding of actual employment settings utilizing their skills and aptitudes.

  • Utilizes various electronic systems to search and research career opportunities.
  • Explores information and career resources.
  • Acquires learning and self-management tools.
  • Develops interpersonal competencies.
  • Facilitates learned experiences to enhance long-term education and career goals.
  • Serves as a liaison for program partners.
  • Manages student work-based learning experiences, including internships and related activities.
  • Manages mentorship-related activities with the partners.

Desired Qualifications



  • Candidate must posses a valid Maryland State Department of Education Teaching license with Work-based Learning endorsement.
  • Previous successful experience in teaching work-based learning / workforce management OR youth engagement preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of instructional strategies and methods appropriate for student learning and work-based learning experience needs.
  • Ability to integrate technology with the curriculum.
  • Problem solving abilities and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to organize ideas, time, and materials to accomplish goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and plan with other staff members through Professional Learning Communities.
  • Desire and willingness to continue to learn and pursue professional development.
  • Be enthusiastic, flexible and have a commitment for students to reach high learning standards.
  • Willingness to accept extracurricular assignments.
