Position Summary |
The individual will join a biodiversity science, with a focus on herbarium record use, and conservation genomics research team. The research of the lab focuses on understanding how plants respond to their environment in light of climate change, using genomics methods to update the conservation status of rare plants, and ethnobotanical projects. The primary duties of the laboratory manager are to help plan, organize, and conduct research in support of the mention research fields, as well as provide technical training to students, employees and volunteers in the lab. The individual will assist with a variety of tasks, not limited to managing day-to-day project-related operations, data collection and processing, data analyses, and databased management. This position is funded for a year and may be renewed for up to a total of two years. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
- Strong R and/or other coding skills.
- Strong knowledge of genomics pipeline(s) - wet lab skills and data analyses.
- Knowledge in databased management.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats (e.g., research reports, protocols).
- Perform basic equipment and instrumentation set up and operation.
- Able to work independently, use good judgment, and trouble-shoot technical activities.
- Organizational skills, precision, self-awareness and is a team player.

Conducting and Analyzing Experiments in the Laboratory:
- Independently conducting laboratory experiments and fieldwork, data analysis, and interpretation to contribute to ongoing research projects is an essential aspect of scientific research.
- Independently analyzing data sets using dynamic tools:
- Perform quality assurance/quality control assessment of data sets.
- Lead component of research related to discover, document, and understand the complex feedbacks by processing samples for stable analysis.
- Data entry and basic analysis and interpretation of results.

Lab Organization and Maintenance:
- Ensure essential supplies are available in the lab, including ordering and receiving.
- Prepare solutions and media.
- Work with personnel in the lab to maintain cleanliness and organization of the space.
- Work with graduate students and postdocs to manage scheduling of space and undergraduate student hours.
- Prompt and effective communication with the PI and lab members.

- Provide training and mentoring to graduate students and undergraduate workers in the group to utilize bioinformatics tools and techniques for their own projects.
