Job Summary
The National Center for Additive Manufacturing Excellence ( NCAME) was founded in 2017 through a collaboration between Auburn University (AU) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration ( NASA) leveraged by a signed AU/ NASA Space Act Agreement. The center is also part of a new Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence, a collaborative effort among AU/ NASA, ASTM International and EWI, i.e. Edison Welding Institute. NCAME aims to lead and foster effective collaborations amongst industry, government, academia, non-profit organizations, and ASTM committees for ensuring a coordinated, global effort toward rapidly closing standards and workforce development gaps in additive manufacturing.

Temporary Employment Services ( TES), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university. TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being:

  • Assistance in the place of a regular employee who is absent for a specified period of time
  • Additional assistance during periods of abnormal or peak workloads
  • Assistance with special projects
  • Seasonal work
  • Emergencies

Essential Functions

  • Position will conduct research in various fields of engineering to design and develop technology and to carry out investigations, evaluation, and application of engineering theories and principles.


  • Works to execute projects, manage laboratories, interact with sponsors and write reports, proposals, and scholarly papers.
  • Evaluates findings to develop new concepts, equipment, or processes.
  • Ensures supplies are available and operational for use in projects.
  • Operate and maintain NCAME shop equipment including CNC lathe and Wire EDM machine along with other standard shop equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field plus 6 years of experience.
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field plus 6 years of experience
