Job Summary

Fishbeck is actively seeking a talented and motivated Roadway Engineer for employment in our Indianapolis, IN office. In this position, you will have the opportunity to work and grow alongside some of the best technical professionals in the state on projects that will impact local communities for years to come. Primary Functions


  • Lead plan production and technical design efforts for transportation projects for INDOT and local agencies using MicroStation OpenRoads.
  • Interact with our clients; INDOT, local agencies, other consulting companies, and contractors.
  • Assist in developing project budgets/schedules.
  • Assist in developing technical proposals.
  • Demonstrate theoretical/practical civil engineering and specialized software knowledge.
  • Work closely with other technical staff internally within Fishbeck and with peers in the industry to provide transportation design and consulting engineering services, primarily for INDOT and local municipalities.
  • Prepare quantities and construction cost estimates for bidding.
  • Interface with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver quality projects to our clients.



Minimum Physical Requirements

Occasionally exposed to light lifting, sitting, and walking. Will perform duties in the field and will be required to access and maneuver around project sites and use a computer. Capable of traveling to and from projects is required. Ability to use equipment for communication and documentation purposes. Visual acuity to perform responsibilities.

Desired Education

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering

Desired Skills/Experience


  • Willingness to learn.
  • Commitment to communication.
  • PE license desired or ability to acquire within 12 months.
  • 4+ years of experience in related roadway engineering positions working on INDOT or Local Agency projects.
  • Working knowledge of MicroStation software is desired.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD/Civil 3D software and other design modeling software is a benefit.
  • Familiarity with HEC-RAS, HY8, StormCAD, and other drainage software is desirable.
  • Experience with storm sewer drainage design, pavement markings, signing plans, 3D modeling, and maintenance of traffic plans is a plus.
  • Roundabout and RCUT design experience is a benefit.
  • Thorough understanding of the Indiana Design Manual and INDOT Standard Specifications.
