POSITION AVAILABLE: Assistant/Associate Professor of Clinical Small Animal Internal Medicine

SALARY: The current base pay range is $160,300 - $216,000. Other components of pay may be offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS: Veterinarian with advanced training in small animal internal medicine. Board certified or board eligible by the American or European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine - Small Animal is required. Clinical experience and competence in small animal internal medicine is required. Demonstrated aptitude/experience in teaching, particularly clinical instruction is required. Documented record of creative scholarship and evidence of clinical research activity in small animal internal medicine is required. Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere and demonstrated (or potential) accomplishment in areas contributing to diversity and inclusion.

Must be eligible for veterinary medical licensing in the State of California (California Business and Professions Code Section 4846-4857). Individuals must obtain a full CA license (California Business and Professions Code Section 4846) or a University license (California Business and Professions Code Section 4848.1) prior to beginning clinical duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical: The position includes a 70% clinical commitment to the Small Animal Medicine Service of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH). The individual will be responsible for directing, instructing and supervising veterinary students and residents; providing health care and service to patients; and advising and consulting with referring veterinarians and clients.

Teaching: The primary teaching responsibility will consist of clinical teaching in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) including direct daily supervision and instruction of senior students in small animal internal medicine. Other responsibilities include: 1) participation in lectures and laboratories in the DVM professional curriculum; 2) all aspects of clinical teaching in the VMTH; 3) participation in the graduate clinical (resident) training program of the VMTH; and 4) continuing professional education. Must demonstrate excellence in teaching..

Professional Competence: Advance the discipline within the VMTH, as well as locally and nationally, through participation and leadership in providing high quality patient care in the hospital environment. Expected to be ECVIM or ACVIM board certified (small animal internal medicine) within 3 years of appointment. Expected to establish reputation for clinical excellence and to promote the VMTH through consultations with referring veterinarians and local continuing education seminars, depending on the level of appointment. Must demonstrate clinical competence and be recognized for accomplishment in a focused area of clinical practice.

Creative Scholarship: Faculty are expected to advance the clinical discipline through creation and dissemination of new knowledge with documentation from peer-reviewed publications. Creative/scholarly activities are required for individuals in this appointment series, but in view of the increased responsibilities for clinical service and teaching, the type of scholarly activity may focus primarily on integrating/improving clinical care, conducting clinical research studies, and/or improving veterinary medical education.

Service: University and public service through committee work, participation in professional organizations, and other appropriate means is required. Active participation and engagement in developing/maintaining continuing education activities of the VMTH as it relates to small animal internal medicine is required.
