About the Position:

The Postdoctoral Fellow in the Center for Geospatial Intelligence (CGEOINT) in the Department of Geography and Geoinformation Science has expertise in the design and implementation of large-scale urban simulations or "digital twin". This position is part of a USDA funded project with a multi-institutional team conducting research across George Mason University (GMU) and the University of Maryland.

Responsibilities:



  • Collaborate in the development of a scalable urban simulation of human mobility and animal movement;
  • Oversee the application of the simulation in various problem areas related to infectious disease;
  • Create and manage a repository of simulation code and data sources;
  • Publish and disseminate research at top-tier journals and conferences; and
  • Supervise research assistants and interns and collaborate with fellow scholars.


Required Qualifications:



  • Terminal degree in a related field (i.e. computer science, data science, modeling and simulation, or closely related fields);
  • Experience in programming;
  • Proven publication record;
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills;
  • Broad knowledge within discipline and detailed knowledge of specific research area;
  • Research techniques; and
  • Data analysis and interpretation.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in agent-based modeling or related social/ecological simulation;
  • Programming experience in Python or Java;
  • Experience in data mining;
  • Experience in data management and databases;
  • Track record that demonstrates the ability to work well with interdisciplinary research teams; and
  • Geospatial analytics skills.
