About the Tervo Lab:

Our lab is part of the Mechanistic Cognitive Neuroscience department at Janelia. We seek to understand the mechanistic basis of social cognition. We do this by working to understand how rats classify and predict other rats' actions and decide how to respond to them. We develop tools to make this possible and use these tools to reveal the neural basis of rodent social interaction in ethological settings. Learn more about our work here.

What you'll do:

  • Lead an independent research project studying the neural basis of social interaction in rats.

  • Long-term electrophysiological recordings of rats engaging in social interaction.

  • Long-term behavioral observations of social interaction.

What you bring:
  • Ph.D. degree in any STEM field

  • Programming experience

  • Experience working with rodents (optional)

  • Experience with neural recordings (ephys or imaging) or other neural techniques (optional)

Physical Requirements:

Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet).

Compensation:

An Associate 00 is compensated at a rate of $74,200.00 annually at HHMI's Janelia Research Campus.

HHMI's salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers.
