The basics of this position:

********** THIS IS A DISTRICT WIDE POSITION**********Assist students with Reading and assignments through one-on-one tutoring sessions in the College. The Professional Tutor in Reading will be a Reading Specialist at the secondary level.

What you'll do:



  • * Conducting individual tutoring/coaching sessions for improving student reading comprehension of college-level texts as well as courses in all academic subject areas.

    * Helping students develop reading strategies for increasing fluency and comprehension.

    * Demonstrating professionalism in behavior and in communication with students, colleagues, and supervisors.

    * Working with students whose first language is not English and students who's disabilities may affect their ability to decode college level reading material.


Education, experience, and other requirements:

A bachelor's degree in Education with advanced studies in Reading. Experience with tutoring or a closely related area and over one (1) year of relevant full-time experience.
Experience working with secondary or college level students, especially in Reading. Must be a former teacher or teaching experience at the college level, and have worked with students with reading disabilities.
Minimum 3.0 GPA in related discipline courses.

Preferred Qualifications:

A successful candidate will have a BA degree in Education or related field such as Journalism as well as have experience working with ESL/ELL students along with writing center experience and/or secondary or postsecondary teaching experience. Previous tutoring and/or writing center experience preferred.
