SUMMARY

The Instrument Technician (EIT) is an hourly position and reports to the IT Supervisor. The IT acts as a process expert for this multi-functional craft dealing with electrical, electronic and instrument specialist responsibilities. This includes reacting to process equipment issues, preventive and predictive maintenance as well as elimination of special cause variation while driving safety & quality and optimizing plant efficiency.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Follows all Owens Corning safety policies and procedures. Works together in Safety & Housekeeping to build and maintain a safe, accident-free work environment for themselves and others, changing the culture to place safety in the forefront of all activities. Assists in analyzing, trouble shooting, installing, and repairing any electrical equipment, instruments, controls, machinery and/or systems Performs precision work utilizing machines, equipment and measuring instruments of this multi-functional job. Insures availability of required items &/or inventory. Utilizes journeyman multi-functional electrical, electronic, instrument functional skills and light mechanical assembly in order to preserve and optimize plant assets and to meet the needs of manufacturing. Provides support and leadership to other craft and non-craft employees in the performance of maintenance tasks, especially during breakdown scenarios. Cooperates with others, plans and performs operational maintenance to machinery and equipment associated with plant operations. Works from information obtained from simple or complex electrical diagrams, engineering drawings, sketches, equipment manuals, and also written or verbal instructions needed to perform assigned duties. Performs the job of trainer for production, apprentice, and other craft personnel as related to craft work. Includes participation in the execution of training plans, providing input for training records and input in to the determination of certification status for each employee. Acts as a liason to management, suppliers and customers. Assists with developmental and/or experimental projects. Utilizes computer expertise to complete records and reports and manage data (includes SAP, work orders, inventory, failure & trend analysis sheets, checklists, requisitions, audit sheets, etc.) Develops & maintains skills and knowledge of the job classification on a continuing basis by participating in formal and informal training situations related to the position. Modifies and updates schematics, catalogs, and etc. Maintains and calibrates Ph probe. Lighting Repairs - lamp/ballast replacement, socket replacement, wiring repair in shops and utility areas such as chiller rooms, HVAC rooms, & storage rooms. Make process equipment mechanical repairs where:

a. Solenoid replacement is necessary - disconnecting and re-connecting solenoids.

b. Preventative Maintenance routines result in identifying a need to repair, replace, or adjust limit switch arms, proximity switches (for position), pushbuttons, etc. Example: An auto bagger stacking gate fails and damages the gate proximity

switch or cord. Or during the process of replacing the gate the switch or cord is damaged. An Electro Mechanic already working on the gate would be expected to carry out repairs to the damaged switch and/or cord.

c. Vertical pump rebuild or replacement is necessary - locking out the motor controller, disconnecting motor, reconnecting the motor after pump re-installation, performing insulation test to ensure insulating system integrity (wiring, connections, and motor windings) and replacement of flexible conduit if needed. Boundaries where work is to be performed by ITs:

a. Any work on equipment rated higher than 110 volts.

b. Circuit or logic modifications.

c. Power distribution system maintenance - switchgear, transformers, medium voltage motor starters, motor control center (MCC) structures (main breaker & bus), interlocked armour cables, large circuit breakers, main disconnects, furnace power regulators, furnace firing transformers, 480/270 volt lighting distribution panels, etc.

d. Conduit, wiring, or electrical equipment installation.

e. Removal of motor starter modules from an energized MCC.

f. Repair, replacement, checkout, or troubleshooting of burner control systems including ANY system requiring flame safety supervisory controls such as asphalt booster heater, HVAC boiler, oven zone burners, incinerator burners, large Hartzell heaters.

g. Instrumentation Maintenance - such as thermocouples, pressure transmitters, process controllers, high-temperature limit controllers, nuclear gauges, level transmitters, digital displays, digital tachometers, bar code scanners, pull cameras, pressure switches, analog circuits, analog feedback systems, digital feedback systems, video operator interface panels, recorders, valve petitioners, differential pressure transmitters, hot slug detectors, video cameras, thickness gauges, laser devices, furnace electrode monitoring equipment, bushing controllers, alarm panels (Panalarms), displacement gauges (hoodwall/oven bridge).

h. Variable speed motor drive electronics such as used in Line Drive, Belt Rollup Drives, Stretch Wrap tension drives, fiberizer drives, over wrap decline conveyor, raw material unloading screw, oven circulation fan drives, exhaust fan drives, batch charger screw drives, and auto bagger feed conveyor drives.

i. Repair or replacement of High-Bay lighting fixtures, outdoor road lighting, main office lighting.

j. Repair, replacement, or troubleshooting on or in PLCs (programmable logic controllers), operator interface panels, communications highways, input/output modules, central processors, power supplies, programs, programming equipment, etc. Uses fork lift and other related mobile & material handling equipment. Maintains housekeeping in the area and follow good safety practices. Applies protective coatings to equipment, floors, and buildings. Ensures clean and orderly housekeeping in all assigned areas at all times. Performs other related duties consistent with the nature of the job as directed by the supervisor.

Must be able to secure and maintain fork lift drivers license
