POSITION TITLE: Community Education Instructor
STATUS:Part-time
DEPARTMENT: Corporate and Community Services
DIVISION: Academic Affairs
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
UNION: Non-union
REPORTS TO: Coordinator, Personal Enrichment
PLACEMENT: Non-credit instructor
PAY RATE: Pay rate is per hour for instruction, and the rate is determined on the subject matter.

POSITION SUMMARY

A Community Education College Instructor is an instructor hired for an individual seminar for which he/she is qualified. The Community Education College Instructor reports to the Personal Enrichment Coordinator and provides quality instruction for the assigned courses. The instructor works with full-time staff in assessing students and following all course guidelines. Willingness to provide instructions at other campus sites is required.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide instruction using appropriate technology, appropriate and effective standards of delivery, and a variety of methods of instruction. To create a student-centered learning environment that is accessible to individual learners with diverse educational needs and goals.

2. Facilitate student learning by preparing, delivering, and assessing learning activities that are consistent with approved course outcomes.

3. Improve student learning by using a variety of teaching strategies.

4. Cultivate open-minded inquiry. Encourage thoughtful, self-reflective assessment. Promote cooperation and mutual respect among students.

5. Provide applicable and relevant classroom exercises. Infuse multicultural and diverse perspectives into the instructional processes as appropriate, and conduct classes in a manner that demonstrates respect for individual and cultural differences.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. One (1) year of experience in the subject matter.

2. Certification, licensure, endorsements, and related experience will be considered.

3. Experience in instructional/classroom technology.

4. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning.

5.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.
6 .Demonstrated commitment to the college's core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation, and quality.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Associate's Degree in Education, subject matter, or closely related field Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.

2. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.

3. Demonstrated multicultural competence.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1. Normal classroom physical demands.

WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Duties are performed indoors in the usual classroom and/or lab environment.
