The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences is seeking a full-time faculty member with a primary interest in establishing and/or growing a robust research program in a department with a dynamic and diverse research portfolio. We strongly encourage applicants from historically excluded groups or those underrepresented in research and medicine to apply.

The faculty may focus on any area of research that falls within the broad research scope of the Department to improve the health and well-being of women, transgender and gender nonbinary people, and people with the capacity for pregnancy in the United Status and globally. Faculty may choose to pursue an area of research that is aligned or in collaboration with current research activities within the Department or develop new areas and programs that are not addressed within our current research portfolio. The Department currently has a particular focus on research in sexual and reproductive health including contraception and abortion, environmental health and justice, health disparities, health equity, preterm birth, Black maternal health, uterine fibroids, and cancer screening and prevention. The faculty member's research program must fall broadly within quantitative or qualitative methodologic approaches related to human subjects research including but not limited to clinical, environmental health related sciences (e.g. epidemiology, exposure science), social science, implementation science, health services, public health, behavioral, or community-based participatory research, or epidemiology.

The candidate will be appointed at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the Adjunct or In-Residence series depending on qualifications and interests. Faculty will be primarily affiliated with one or more of the following Department divisions or research units: Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH), Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health, Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Division of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Gynecologic Subspecialities, the California Preterm Birth Initiative (PTBi), the Program on Reproductive Health and the Environment or the Environmental Research and Translation for Health (EaRTH) Center.

This faculty position will include significant initial salary support for research and academic time over 5 years, as well as funds for research activities (e.g., research staff and equipment), with the amount of support based upon the successful candidate's existing grant funding and rank. Ultimately, the faculty member will be expected to obtain research grant funding to help support their ongoing salary and program of research.

Required qualifications at the time of hire include:

  • PhD (or equivalent, such as DrPH, ScD) or MD degree
  • If MD, Board Eligible/Certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology and either licensed or eligible for license in California.
  • Demonstration of commitment to an academic career focused on impactful research activities that align with the Department mission and goals.
  • Track record of successful publication of original research and extramural funding. Candidates at the Assistant Professor rank may not have current research funds but should demonstrate a high potential for the capacity to obtain extramural funding for future research activities.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Interest in broad academic activities including mentorship, teaching, service, advocacy, and as applicable, clinical care.
  • Experience and training in community and stakeholder engagement to center equity and anti-racism in research.
