We are seeking a highly motivated System Engineer to help our Department of Defense (DOD) and Intelligence Community (IC) customers transform their mission environments to meet the ever-changing needs of the 21st century.

As a Sr. Systems Engineer, you will ...

  • Work with sponsors and project teams to develop strategies and plan development, perform requirements analysis, architecture analysis, gap and dependency identification, risk analysis, and provide integration and test guidance.
  • Apply your knowledge of systems engineering principles and a detailed understanding of multiple layers of operational concepts, including mission, infrastructure, platform, service, and endpoints, and apply that knowledge to improving capabilities as they are developed, throughout the systems engineering lifecycle, and transitioned to the operational environment.
  • Work with government partners and decision makers to ensure systems under development meet their complex, varied operational needs, while communicating technical risk and limitations.
  • Provide on-site government support to ensure technical direction is developed and maintained.
  • Guide and mentor team members to develop future leaders and technical specialists.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you have...

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Cyber Security, Computer Information Systems Security, or relevant fields.
  • Experience in early concept development, developing system requirements, performing functional analysis and allocation, and conducting trade studies in support of the design, development, and evaluation of complex systems.
  • Experience with modeling frameworks such as the Department of Defense Architecture Framework or Unified Architecture Framework.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic environment that includes working with changing needs and requirements.
  • Ability to proactively identify and develop solutions to address sponsor critical technical challenges and meet program milestones.
  • Experience working with and leading software development teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; outstanding oral and writing skills, good organizational skills, ability to both lead and work in teams, comfortable and effective in communicating technical topics at all levels-to include peers, executive level management, and senior government leaders.
  • 15 years' experience in Systems Engineering.
  • Hold an active TS/SCI+ poly level clearance.If selected, you will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you have ...

  • Familiarity with one or more AI/ML techniques including statistical learning, knowledge representation and semantic reasoning, reinforcement learning, supervised learning, unsupervised learning, neural networks, and generative AI.
  • Understanding of concepts, issues and trades for integrating AI/ML techniques into large distributed architectures.
  • Direct experience applying aspects of Digital Engineering / Model Based Systems Engineering in support of complex system development.
  • Experience in system modeling using UML/SysML and associated modeling software such as Cameo, Rhapsody, or SPARX EA
  • Advanced Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Cyber Security, Computer Information Systems Security, or related fields.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
