Overview

Atrium Health Weight Management is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join its current team of 5 Bariatric Surgeons and 2 APP's. If it's possible, you will find it at Atrium Health- the leading community focused academic healthcare academic system serving North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.

This full-time position includes:

  • A broad-based general surgery practicing elective and acute procedures at Atrium Health Mercy and NorthEast
  • Working with surgeons one on one in the OR, IP rounding, and call coverage
  • Assist Surgeons in Gastric Bypass, Gastric Sleeve and Duodenal Switch and revisional bariatric surgery
  • Inpatient work comprising 2-4 scheduled cases per day, with variable monthly call rotation shared with fellows and residents

Provides services in inpatient, outpatient, endoscopy and operating room setting caring for acute and chronically ill or injured patients. May perform minimally to advanced invasive procedures and must be primarily first assisting a surgeon in complex surgical cases. In addition, providers perform band adjustment under fluoroscopy.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and make proactive decisions
  • Three years of bariatric surgery experience and/or experience in a surgical specialty
  • Experience as a first assist (ideally experience with laparoscopy) and management of immediately post-operative patients as an inpatients
  • Experience and confidence taking first call for a surgical service independently.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Must have or be eligible for a DEA license. Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state one works. Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board in NC required. BLS for Healthcare Provider from AHA required with expiration date greater than 90 days from date of beginning practice.

  • Nurse Practitioner - Master's Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required. License to practice as a Registered Nurse required. Certification in the area of practice from a nationally recognized certifying body required.
    • Acute Care board certification required based upon population and acuity served.
  • Physician Assistant - Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required; Master's Degree preferred. Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred.
