Job Summary
Fishbeck is seeking a full-time Civil Field Technician to work in our Cincinnati, Ohio office. The primary duties of this position include field observation and documentation of construction contractors' activities for conformance with contract requirements. Applicant must be willing to travel and work in an outdoor environment. This is a great opportunity to get experience on a variety of projects and develop a career in field inspection.
Primary Functions


  • Prepare thorough inspector's daily reports (IDRs) detailing the status of the work, including verification of work completed, item postings and materials associations, and jobsite conditions. Work with Documentation Clerk on proper IDR procedures and submit IDRs in a timely manner.
  • Complete and submit required calculations, sketches, and applicable forms, including but not limited to, Inspectors Daily Report of Concrete Placed, Permit to Place, Inspector's Daily Record of Contract Removal Items, Minimum Wage Rate Interview, Mobility Report, Jobsite Poster Checklist, and Drilled Shaft Inspection Report forms.
  • Verify and document that construction adheres to contract requirements. Communicate with appropriate senior staff and contractor's personnel on issues of non-compliance
  • Assist with Requests for Information.
  • Serve as liaison between the contractor and senior technician or engineer to resolve constructability issues or questions.
  • Communicate, as needed and appropriate, with project team and stakeholders including project engineer, senior technician, testing technicians, survey staff, contractors, business owners, and residents.
  • Work closely with senior technicians and engineers to verify and document proper execution of project designs.
  • Perform material sampling and testing on applicable materials. May include soil sampling, compaction testing, concrete testing, etc.


Minimum Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and sit as needed on project sites. Ability to drive a motor vehicle to reach work sites; ability to maneuver project sites with uneven terrain. Ability to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate. Accommodation may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.
Desired Education
Associates degree or equivalent experience.
Desired Degree
Associates degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Concrete Technology, or similar, or equivalent experience. In lieu of degree, previous Odot/Municipal Experience and/or NICET certification.
Desired Skills/Experience


  • 18 months +of construction project technical experience. ODOT experience a plus. Experience performing inspection for municipal or local agency projects is acceptable.
  • ODOT prequalification's for Project Inspector, Structure Inspector, Coatings Inspector, Signal and Lighting Inspector or Soils and Aggregate Inspector a plus.
  • Experience with or knowledge of ODOT documentation requirements and use of Mobile Inspector and site manager is a plus.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with good driving record and be available for occasional travel, long hours, and weekends.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, follow direction, and work independently.
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, and Excel is a plus, but not required.
