Description of Position:
Positions allocated to this classification are primarily responsible for providing complex mechanical maintenance and repair work to building systems and other related equipment. This classification specification will not specifically identify every eventuality or combination of duties and responsibilities of positions that currently exist, or those that result from changing program emphasis or organizational structures in the future. To be classified as a Maintenance Mechanic 2, the majority of tasks performed must be in the job duties of this classification as noted below.

Responsibilities:
Mechanic 2 classification performs the majority of tasks noted below, and includes other related duties as assigned.
Performs duties of the Maintenance Mechanic I classification
Tests, regenerates, inspects, adjusts, changes filters, repairs and replaces components of water softeners, distilled water and laboratory water systems down stream of approved backflow preventers
Aligns and replaces hot water heating, chilled water and condenser water pumps
Inspects services and performs daily operation to hot water heating systems and low-pressure steam chillers
Repairs and replaces hot water heating, low pressure steam equipment systems and steam/chiller components
Shuts down, starts up, repairs, replaces and installs irrigation systems after approved backflow preventers
Services and performs daily operation of chilled water generating equipment and repair without breaking into the refrigerant side
Inspects, tests, cleans, repairs and maintains daily operation of cooling towers
Repairs and replaces components of air handlers and dampers; inspects and cleans coils
Repairs and replaces variable blade axial fans
Repairs generator engines
Notifies supervisor of equipment or supplies in need of repair or replenishment; also of facilities in need of repair or upkeep
Shocks water heaters
Resets and programs building master clocks and lighting panels
Flushes and winterizes heating and cooling coils
Tests, cleans, lubricates, monitors and inspects fire pumps and associated equipment
Assists Mechanic 3's with duties as assigned without assuming full responsibility

This job may be designated as essential.

Hourly pay range (based on experience): $29.06 - $30.85

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Technical training in mechanical maintenance totaling two years and three years of applicable work experience. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to meet the physical requirements of this position. Ability to perform the duties of the Maintenance Mechanic 1 classification specification. Certain positions within this classification may require specific licenses and/or certificates (i.e. a welding certificate, special engineer's license, etc).

Essential Qualification:
Regular attendance is an essential qualification for this position.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform heavy manual labor, lifting up to 50 pounds
ability to work in confined spaces wearing a PAPR
Ability to work in extreme hot/cold, dirty spaces
Ability to climb ladders and perform work overhead
Ability to climb, stoop, bend, stand, crawl, push and pull for extended periods of time
Ability to perform snow removal duties including shoveling and operating a snow removal equipment
Ability to use hand tools and specialized power tools
Ability to operate heavy equipment, fork lifts, bobcats and other motorized equipment used in the maintenance of building and grounds

Demonstrated Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Interact with fellow employees, management, customers and the general public in a courteous, cooperative, and professional manner. Maintain a positive public image, positive attitude and demeanor when performing a service for customers and the general public at the University. Safely perform duties following established University safe operating procedures and practices.
