Job Description

POSITION IS ALSO POSTED AS A PSYCHOLOGIST UNDER JOB ID #61306. ONLY ONE WILL BE HIRED.

The MU Counseling Center is part of the MU Student Health and Well-Being unit, which includes the Counseling Center, Student Health Center, and Wellness Resource Center. The Center is an APA-accredited doctoral internship site and serves the MU student community. The Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention Program (RSVP) is a program embedded within Student Health and Well-Being. RSVP case management and clinical services are embedded within the Counseling Center, while outreach and prevention efforts are embedded within the Wellness Resource Center. The staff seek professionals to join a team who are engaged in efforts to enhance campus services to better support all students.

The successful candidate will promote the well-being of Mizzou students through the provision of high-quality case management and clinical services (including brief individual therapy, group therapy, and crisis counseling) for university students with a special focus on survivors of sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking. These presenting concerns often overlap with various psychological, academic and interpersonal concerns. The RSVP clinician will work collaboratively with other mental health providers, medical staff, and outreach and health promotion staff in Student Health and Well-being. Competence and experience in the treatment of a wide variety of diagnoses and life problems in addition to relationship and sexual violence is required.

Job Duties Include:

  • Provide confidential case management, brief individual therapy, group counseling, and crisis intervention services to students, with a special focus on survivors of sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking as part of the Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention Program (RSVP).
    • Conduct RSVP Brief Screening assessments for students seeking RSVP related clinical services and connect to appropriate case management and on-going clinical services as needed.
    • Provide case management services depending on individual needs of the student, including but not limited to safety planning, assisting with referral needs, providing resources, and trauma-specific psychoeducation.
    • Provide brief therapy to students referred for on-going clinical services.
    • Perform crisis and consultation services during regular business hours that require complex clinical decision-making.
    • Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation of all service contacts as required by Center policies and procedures and state laws.
    • Develop and facilitate RSVP related group therapy.
  • Provide prevention and outreach services centered around relationship violence, sexual assault prevention, impacts of interpersonal violence, and other related topics.
    • Work closely with the RSVP Health Educator at the Wellness Resource Center (WRC) and other WRC Health Educators and staff to develop and provide prevention and outreach services on campus.
    • Foster relationships with key campus contacts for the purpose of developing and implementing programmatic interventions that result in student participation.
  • Coordinate with other campus offices that work with survivors - such as the Student Health Center, MU Police Department, Student Accountability and Support, Care Team, and Office of Institutional Equity (OIE).
  • Coordinate with community partners who also serve survivors in the larger Columbia area and make referrals and connections as needed.
  • Become familiar with the Clery Act (20 U.S.C. 1092(f)) and the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and related federal requirements for universities and colleges, including programming, service provision, and reporting.
  • May conduct supervision and training for post-doctoral residents, doctoral interns in our APA-accredited doctoral internship, post-MA fellows, and graduate students in training (as allowed by licensure status).
  • Contribute as a member of the MUCC team to the development and implementation of goals, philosophies, policies, and procedures that support the psychological needs of Mizzou students and cultivate a culture of well-being on campus. Serve on relevant MUCC and/or University committees as requested.

The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal, oral, and written skills; value a multifaceted approach involving linked clinical and training efforts; demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, campus partners, and student groups; exhibit interpersonal flexibility with a sense of humor; understand the importance of life balance and have a strong commitment to the developmental perspective of counseling services.
