Works under general supervision to coordinate and administer workers' compensation benefits. Adheres to institution policies and procedures by using advanced knowledge, skills and abilities to ensure program effectiveness and compliance with state and federal regulations.

  • Experience with a state agency, institution of higher education or health care organization.

    Experience or an education in statistical analysis or data science.

JOB DUTIES
  • Provides the focal point for all questions and problems relative to Workers' Compensation and Return to Work Program issues. Develops and/or recommends program improvements or efficiencies to management.
  • Serves as a "source" of information for Workers' Compensation regulations and guidelines. Notifies injured employees that their injury may be covered under the workers' compensation program. Provides claim, network, pharmacy information and follow-up documents and forms that are required in all job-related injuries. Conveys the requirements of the Workers' Compensation programs to supervisors, managers, and employees.
  • Receives, processes and/or creates all First Reports of Injury (DWC-1), Reports Only (Incidents), Supplemental Reports of Injury (DWC-6), Requests for Paid Leave (Form-23), Wage Statements (DWC-3) and Bona Fide Job Offers in accordance with state and UT System rules and regulations. Monitor and manage Employee First Reports of Injury (EFRIs). Coordinate gathering of information between employee, departments, witnesses and adjusters, maintain a detailed record of job-related injuries and accurately and timely enter information into UT System's chosen database/system. Review Plain Language Notices (PLN) for claim determination analysis and appropriate follow up actions.
  • Collaborates as needed with Leave Administration regarding FMLA and the Office of Access and Title IX regarding ADA.
  • Maintains daily liaison with employees of UT System or their designee, providing research, obtaining reports, collaborating with departments, answering questions or providing clarification and related information as required.
  • Participates in hearings at the Division of Workers' Compensation and provides testimony or depositions as required. Gathers information and provides prompt and accurate responses to the Office of Legal Affairs regarding litigation, claims or complaints.
  • Serves as the employer representative to prepare all Descriptions of Injured Employee's Employment (DWC-74) as needed for the treating doctor.
  • Researches and provides accurate and timely data for monthly, quarterly and annual reporting and weekly metrics. Summarizes and analyzes injury and occupational disease statistics.
  • Researches and provides written reports on issues relative to workers' compensation. Partners with Occupational Health and other departments as needed. Works with Safety personnel to help support safety measures, potential hazards and recommended training. Facilitates the sharing of reports for safety investigations, air quality checks, job analyses and/or ergonomic assessments.
  • Manages Work Status Reports (DWC-73) for possible First Notices of Injury and/or timely submission of the appropriate Supplemental Report of Injury (DWC-6) and to promptly prepare, monitor and administer Bona Fide Job Offers and facilitate alternative job placement, if needed, during the course of the Return to Work program. Participates in case management meetings as needed. Prepares and distributes Return to Work exhaustion notices as required.
  • Provides training for small to medium size groups of supervisors, managers or administrators as necessary.
  • Assists with other institutional insurance programs as needed. Assures that services delivered meet quality and timeliness standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Knowledge of the Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers' Compensation employer rules and requirements is preferred.
  • Work requires proficient knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications and a high level of comfort using computers, digital tools, and modern workplace technologies. Must be able to learn and adapt to new software applications, systems, and technology-enabled processes. Work requires reviewing literature and attending continuing education to remain current with changes in workers' compensation law and regulations.
  • Work requires proficient skill to interpret policy and apply procedures, techniques, or practices to work problems.
  • Work requires effective written and verbal communication skills, time management, analysis and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Work requires flexibility, adaptability, speed and proficiency in managing and delivering a large volume of work on time.
  • Work requires proficient skill in customer service through telephone, email and personal contact with all levels of internal and external personnel and organizations to obtain or provide information and explain facts, policies, and procedures relating to resolution of problems of a recurring but non-routine nature.
  • Work requires proficiency in reading, writing, simple to advanced arithmetic, data analysis, report writing, interpretation of policies and procedures, and organization of resources to meet goals.
  • Work requires a strong work ethic, good attendance, punctuality and reliability with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure and meet or exceed service expectations.
  • Ability to present information to small or medium-size groups.
