About the Position:


The Part-Time Organizational Change Management (OCM) Specialist supports George Mason University's efforts to manage, implement, and sustain change initiatives across Human Resources (HR). This role assists in planning and executing key OCM activities that will assist HR in successfully adopting new processes, policies, technologies, and ways of working. The Specialist will work collaboratively with Human Resources and other stakeholders as designated by project sponsors to develop project schedules, communication plans and other deliverables as needed to integrate change strategies across HR operations and roll-out changes to the broader George Mason community. The candidate must demonstrate strong skills in communication, stakeholder engagement, facilitation, training support, and organizational change practices.


Working under the direction of the Director, Organizational Development & Learning, the Specialist will contribute to the ongoing execution of core change management tasks-including readiness assessments, communication development, training coordination, and stakeholder support-to ensure smooth implementation and adoption of university initiatives.


Responsibilities:


Change Strategy & Planning



  • Supports OCM activities for HR initiatives, including new systems, policies, or process improvements;
  • Assists in developing change management strategies to promote adoption, reduce resistance, and enhance project outcomes;
  • Contributes to carrying out impact analyses, readiness assessments, and documentation efforts for major change efforts; and
  • Supports planning and tracking of milestones and deliverables associated with assigned projects.


Stakeholder Engagement & Communication



  • Helps maintain positive engagement with project sponsors, department leaders, faculty, and staff throughout the change process;
  • Assists in preparing communications, presentations, and outreach materials that provide clear, timely information;
  • Participates in meetings and sessions with campus stakeholders to gather feedback, identify concerns, and align expectations; and
  • Applies strong interpersonal and written communication skills to support a constructive environment during transitions.


Training & Capability Building



  • Assists in coordinating and delivering training sessions related to new systems, processes, or HR initiatives that support change and organizational development efforts; and
  • Supports the development of training materials and resources to ensure successful knowledge transfer to stakeholders.


Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in business, organizational development, education, communication, or in a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience supporting organizational change efforts, communications, or training activities;
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization;
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and facilitation skills; and
  • Familiarity with change management methodologies (e.g., Prosci) preferred.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Prosci or similar change management certification;
  • Experience in higher education, academic administration, or a learning-focused environment; and
  • Experience supporting HR, organizational development, or process improvement initiatives.
