Position Summary Information












Primary Purpose
The Office of Institutional Research, Assessment and Planning ( IRAP) is a department within the division of Academic Affairs. In its institutional research function, it is responsible for collecting and analyzing institutional data and reporting it to the UNC System, the campus, and the public. The assessment function of IRAP supports the assessment of academic programs, educational support programs, and administrative offices. It consults with university personnel to develop and implement processes to improve the functioning of their respective programs and offices. It also maintains a web-based assessment reporting program used by offices and programs to record their assessment plans and activities. The assessment function is also responsible for developing and deploying online surveys used for academic and administrative data gathering. This position works with the Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation in carrying out all of these assessment-related functions and works collaboratively with colleagues in IRAP and department leaders across the institution.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Ability to organize and coordinate multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to change
  • Experience with assessment/program evaluation/institutional effectiveness
  • Knowledge of the process and practice of learning outcomes assessment in higher education
  • Expertise with qualitative and quantitative methods of research and analysis
  • Demonstrates professionalism, tact, and discretion when interacting with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to adapt messages to a range of constituents

License/Certification Required
None required
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in higher education, public administration, social science, statistics or related field of study
  • Experience in higher education setting
  • Experience with survey software such as Qualtrics
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet software
  • Experience with statistical analysis applications such as SPSS or SAS

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Consult with administrative and educational support units regarding their annual assessment efforts
  • Consult with academic departments and programs on their student learning outcomes and their annual assessment efforts
  • Provide leadership and support for program reviews, including maintaining the calendar and documentation
  • Work closely with the Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation and the University Academic Assessment Council in developing and regularly reviewing guidelines for institutional effectiveness
  • Maintain the University's system for accreditation reports, program reviews, and assessment plans and reports
  • Assist with institutional-level survey administration and data analysis as needed
  • Update the institutional effectiveness section of the IRAP website
  • Support General Education assessment efforts
  • Provide support for university accreditation efforts
  • Develop and lead professional development around continuous improvement and best practices in assessment
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation
