Position Overview: This position is responsible for performing the technical, nonjudgmental aspects of medication preparation, distribution, record keeping, and inventory control at all admixture locations. Tasks are subject to sequential or final verification by a registered nurse or a registered pharmacist. Supports and adheres to the Cancer Care Northwest Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each of the essential duties/responsibilities listed below. - Prepare medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision of a Check all orders for completeness of information.
- Verifies patient information and proper physician authorization.
- Checks all orders for insurance approval by the Patient Advocate before admixing.
- Admixes drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner as per department guidelines and preparing all drugs within OSHA guidelines and interoffice Calculates correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
- Maintains patient drug program admixture records and charge records per insurance requirements. Maintains controlled drug inventory records per Company policy and procedures. Maintains current drug information resources and drug administration standardization per company policy and procedures.
- Properly dispose of all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs. Cleans hood daily as stated in policy and procedures.
- Logs and dates all drugs that are being used as required per Company policy and procedures. Checks drugs monthly for outdates. Monitors and maintains drug storage requirements per manufacturer and/or research study protocols requirements.
- Keeps accurate logs on all research protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs. Maintains proper control documentation of all these medications, including lot numbers and all other quality assurance activities.
- Completes inventory control of both drug and non-drug supplies. Orders supplies and medications. Receives and shelves medications per Company policy.
- Maintains adequate admixture medical supplies for compounding sterile products.
- Prepare labels. Files and prepares billing. Maintains a thorough understanding of department automation, data entry and report generation.
- Provides direction/guidance/training to new Admixture Technician staff when needed.
- Assumes responsibility of admixture site when oversight leader is absence.
- Will float to other admixture site locations as needed.
- Performs all other duties/responsibilities as necessary or assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Formal Education, Certification/Licensure, and Prior Experience: to perform this job successfully, an individual must have:
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree
- one year experience in a pharmacy mixing hazardous sterile IV preparations.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician license upon hire
- IV or Hazardous Compounding certification preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Regularly: sit, stand, grasp, reach, talk, and hear
- Occasionally: walk, lift to 40 pounds, pull/push up to 40 pounds, carry up to 40 pounds, bend, stoop/crouch, and smell
- Vision: clearly see up to 5 feet with or without corrective lenses and differentiate between colors
Work Environment: While performing the essential duties/responsibilities of this job, the employee:
- will not be exposed to any workplace environmental conditions caused by extreme noise, heat, cold, hazardous, pathogen or atmospheric exposures
- may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
