Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a part-time Research Programmer for the Rutgers Infrastructure Monitoring and Evaluation (
RIME) Group within the School of Engineering. This position requires close collaboration with faculty, research staff, external agencies, stakeholders, and other research groups to support research initiatives. The incumbent will serve as the primary point of contact for maintaining, troubleshooting, enhancing, and supporting software infrastructure and research applications. Responsibilities include software design, development, testing, debugging, deployment, documentation, and ongoing system maintenance.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Maintains, troubleshoots, and enhances existing software, scripts, websites, and web-based applications to support ongoing research projects.
- Monitors software performance, resolves technical issues, oversees bug fixes, and minor feature enhancements under the direction of faculty and research.
- Conducts data analysis and database management, and prepares technical documentation to ensure the reliability and continued operation of research software systems.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology, or a related field plus two years of experience in software development, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

| Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently.
- Strong programming skills, particularly in Python, and experience with other programming languages or tools such as JavaScript, SQL, Java, C/C++, or Visual Basic.
- Experience with Python libraries and frameworks such as Pandas, NumPy, Django, or similar tools.
- Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, enhancing, and supporting existing software systems, scripts, websites, databases, and web-based applications.
- Ability to design, develop, test, and enhance software applications and reusable code to support research projects.
- Full-stack web development experience, including JavaScript, HTML, CSS, web frameworks, and RESTful APIs.
- Familiarity with code versioning tools such as Git.

- Master's degree.
- Experience contributing to or leading software enhancements, application deployments, or database-driven web application development projects.
- Experience with relational databases and large datasets, including time-series data.
- Knowledge of code packaging, release, deployment, and basic system administration.
AWS or DevOps experience.
