We are seeking a Community Manager who is equity-minded and demonstrates a sensitivity to the range of identities and diverse backgrounds present in our community. The candidate should be highly-organized and able to manage multiple groups within an organization. The candidate should have or be capable of learning strong research and communications skills, a collaborative mindset, and change management experience. They should have or be capable of a moderate-to-high degree of personal initiative, require minimal supervision, and be able to adjust to an organization's changing needs. Most of all, the candidate must have high zeal for this role and a willingness to learn.

The Community Manager is a dynamic, hands-on position that is responsible for supporting all related aspects of community engagement and outreach within our organization, with a significant focus on enriching diversity and inclusion in our community.

The Community Manager plays a vital role in the strategic and operations management of our existing gender and diversity groups (IgEquity and ImmunoDiverse, respectively). This includes planning, implementation, and coordination of new and existing initiatives to support each groups' priorities, and ensuring that they are able to do their best work.

The Community Manager also administratively supports the broader faculty oversight committee (Membership & Community Committee).

The Community Manager directly reports to the ImmunoX Chief Strategy Officer and acts as a bridge between faculty and trainee leadership groups.

Community Engagement, Diversity and Trainee Programs

Provides strategic and operational support for ImmunoX community engagement initiatives and trainee organizations, including ImmunoTEX, ImmunoX Trainee Ambassadors, IgEquity, ImmunoExplore, ImmunoDiverse, and the Mental Health Coalition, with a significant focus on enriching diversity and inclusion in the community.

  • Plans, implements, and evaluates professional development, networking, community-building, diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Provides DEI subject matter expertise, including education and awareness on research, data, challenges, and disparities as needed.
  • Works closely with group leaders and HR/admin to develop and support diversity and equity initiatives across UCSF.
  • Coordinates workshops, symposiums, retreats, mentoring activities, leadership development opportunities, networking activities, and special events.
  • Builds strong ties to underserved high schools, colleges, and the local Bay Area community to increase outreach and recruiting efforts of historically underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Helps to administer the allyship program that encourages learning and personal development through reading materials and voluntary group discussions.
  • Manages complex project timelines and facilitates communication among faculty, trainees, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Tracks program outcomes and examines the efficacy of outreach events based on internally set metrics, participant feedback, engagement, and progress.
  • Leads post-event retrospectives and develops recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with internal and external partners to support outreach, recruitment, professional development, and community engagement activities.
  • Designs and maintains best practices and other resources, making sure the groups' assets are discoverable, curated, and current.

Community & Leadership Committee Support

Provides administrative and programmatic support for the Community & Leadership Committees and broader faculty oversight activities.

  • Organizes and coordinates committee meetings, including scheduling, planning agendas, creating slides and presentation materials, preparing minutes, documenting action items, and supporting implementation of committee priorities.
  • Oversees community funding programs, including application cycles, review processes, budget tracking, reimbursement coordination, award communications, reporting, and ensuring community participation in funded initiatives.
  • Maintains membership records, membership pipeline, onboarding processes, and engagement pathways for faculty, trainees, and community participants.
  • Develops new vehicles of engagement.
  • Coordinates faculty engagement initiatives, including luncheon series, networking programs, and community-building activities.
  • Acts as a bridge between faculty and trainee leadership groups.

Strategic Communications and Public Engagement

Leads strategic communications initiatives that promote community engagement, research visibility, organizational priorities, and public outreach.

  • Develops and manages content across multiple communication platforms, including newsletters, websites, social media channels, blogs, digital campaigns, and promotional materials.
  • Manages and crafts content for the website, social media feeds, and other forms of communications.
  • Supports communications efforts for special initiatives, including Breaking Down Biolog the blog, the ImmunoX Faculty Spotlight series, and other public-facing engagement activities.
  • Leads public engagement and outreach initiatives.
  • Monitors engagement metrics and evaluates communication effectiveness to inform future outreach strategies.
  • Plans and organizes socials, networking, and other special events.

Financial, Event and Operational Support

Provides operational and administrative support across community engagement programs and special initiatives.

  • Participates in financial and logistical planning of yearly and special events.
  • Participates in budget planning, expense tracking, event logistics, vendor coordination, and resource management for ad hoc initiatives.
  • Monitors and reviews budgets and expenses.
  • Develops and maintains documentation, templates, standard operating procedures, best practices, and other organizational resources to support efficient program administration.
  • Cross-trains with other ImmunoX administrative personnel to ensure continuity of operations and organizational resilience.
