DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role focuses on coordinating outreach, communication, and media activities for PennDOT districts and community partners. Through your work, you will support public engagement, digital content development, and customer service efforts. As a Transportation Community Relations Coordinator 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Community Outreach: Coordinate events, support outreach programs, and collaborate with schools, organizations, and municipal partners
  • Media Coordination: Prepare press releases, assist with interviews, and support district media activities
  • Information Materials: Develop clear messages and materials that explain transportation projects and initiatives
  • Customer Assistance: Handle inquiries, manage public submissions, and maintain helpful customer resources
  • Digital Updates: Post content to websites, assist with digital displays, and help manage social media responses
  • Event Support: Organize public ceremonies, presentations, and meetings for transportation programs

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position may be eligible for alternate work schedule (AWS).
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Uniontown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of public relations work experience promoting programs through the mass media, or community organizing experience; and a bachelor's degree; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
