Manager, Linux & Unix Infrastructure Services

What success looks like in this role:

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Manager, Linux & Unix Infrastructure Services to lead the delivery, operational excellence, and modernization of enterprise Linux, Unix, and middleware platforms supporting mission-critical business applications. This role is responsible for managing a team of infrastructure engineers and administrators delivering services across KVM virtualization, IBM AIX, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Oracle Linux, Tandem systems, IBM MQ, BIND DNS, and middleware technologies.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, resource management, service delivery oversight, and strategic direction while ensuring platform stability, security, performance, and compliance with client and organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Service Delivery & Operations

• Lead the delivery and support of Linux, Unix, middleware, messaging, DNS, and Tandem infrastructure services.
• Ensure operational excellence through established SLAs, KPIs, incident management, problem management, and change management processes.
• Oversee 24x7 support activities and ensure rapid restoration of critical services during outages.
• Drive continuous service improvement initiatives to improve availability, performance, and operational efficiency.
• Manage infrastructure risks, technical debt, and platform lifecycle planning.

Leadership & Resource Management

• Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team supporting Linux, Unix, middleware, DNS, messaging, and Tandem technologies.
• Establish performance objectives, development plans, and succession planning for technical resources.
• Coordinate workload prioritization, staffing requirements, and resource allocation across projects and operational activities.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, technical excellence, and customer focus.

Infrastructure & Platform Management

• Provide leadership for environments utilizing:
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  • Oracle Linux
  • IBM AIX
  • KVM Virtualization
  • Tandem / HPE NonStop Platforms
  • IBM MQ Messaging Services
  • Linux BIND DNS Services
  • Middleware platforms including WebSphere, WebLogic, JBoss, Apache Tomcat, and related technologies
• Ensure platform security, patching, vulnerability remediation, and compliance activities are completed within defined timelines.
• Oversee capacity planning, performance management, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery readiness.

Project & Transformation Leadership

• Lead infrastructure deployments, migrations, upgrades, and modernization initiatives.
• Drive automation efforts utilizing scripting and infrastructure management tools.
• Partner with application, security, network, cloud, and architecture teams to implement new solutions.
• Support data center, cloud, virtualization, and platform transformation programs.
• Provide technical leadership during audits, infrastructure assessments, and client reviews.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

• Serve as the primary escalation point for infrastructure services under management.
• Communicate service health, risk posture, project status, and operational metrics to leadership and clients.
• Develop and present executive-level status reports, service reviews, and operational roadmaps.
• Support business growth initiatives, solution development, and infrastructure planning discussions.

Success Measures

• Achievement of SLA and service availability targets.
• Reduction in operational risk and technical debt.
• Successful delivery of infrastructure projects and modernization initiatives.
• Improved platform reliability, security compliance, and operational efficiency.
• High levels of client satisfaction and team engagement.

Ideal Candidate Profile

This role is ideal for a hands-on infrastructure leader who can balance operational management, technical leadership, modernization initiatives, and customer-facing service delivery responsibilities across a diverse enterprise Linux and Unix ecosystem.

You will be successful in this role if you have:

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of experience supporting enterprise Linux and Unix environments.
• 5+ years of experience managing technical infrastructure teams.
• Strong experience with:
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Oracle Linux
  • IBM AIX
  • KVM Virtualization
  • IBM MQ
  • BIND DNS
  • Tandem / HPE NonStop environments
  • Enterprise middleware platforms
• Experience managing large-scale production environments supporting critical business applications.
• Strong understanding of ITIL-based service management processes.
• Experience with high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading infrastructure modernization, automation, and cloud integration initiatives.
• Knowledge of Ansible, Terraform, Python, Bash, or other automation tools.
• Experience with hybrid cloud environments and enterprise virtualization platforms.
• ITIL Foundation or advanced ITIL certification.
• Red Hat, IBM, Oracle, or related infrastructure certifications.
