Web Software Developer

The Web/Software Developer designs, develops, implements, integrates, and maintains web applications, software, and digital services to support the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science's research, administrative, and student success goals. This role works with Erik Jonsson School stakeholders to create secure, scalable, user-friendly applications that meet institutional standards, accessibility guidelines, and cybersecurity best practices.

The ideal candidate should possess strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality software that enhances operational efficiency and user experience. They will oversee student workers and be willing to take on additional technical projects.

Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in higher education technology environments.
* Experience with Microsoft Azure, AWS, or other cloud platforms.
* Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
* Experience with AI-enabled solutions and automation technologies.

Skills
* Three (4) years of professional experience in web and software development; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
* Experience developing applications using modern programming languages such as C#, Java, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or similar.
* Experience with front-end frameworks and technologies such as React, Angular, Vue.js, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
* Experience with relational databases such as SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
* Experience with Microsoft Power Platform, SharePoint, or Microsoft 365 development.
* Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
* Experience in multiple computer operating systems: Windows, Linux, Apple, etc.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.

Responsibilities:
* Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain custom software applications and web-based solutions.
* Develop scalable and maintainable code using modern programming languages, frameworks, and development methodologies.
* Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into effective software solutions.
* Develop and maintain APIs and application integrations with enterprise systems.

Web Development
* Design and maintain responsive websites, portals, dashboards, and web applications.
* Ensure compliance with university branding standards, accessibility guidelines, and user experience best practices.
* Optimize web applications for performance, usability, and security.
* Troubleshoot and resolve web application issues across multiple platforms and browsers.
Systems Integration and Data Management
* Develop and maintain integrations between university systems, databases, cloud services, and third-party platforms.
* Design database structures, queries, reports, and data exchange processes.
* Support data validation, data integrity, and reporting requirements.

Security and Compliance
* Follow secure coding practices and university cybersecurity standards.
* Conduct application testing, vulnerability remediation, and code reviews.
* Ensure compliance with FERPA, university policies, accessibility requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
Collaboration and Support
* Work closely with faculty, staff, students, and Erik Jonsson School Leadership to identify technology needs and solutions.
* Provide technical documentation, user training, and knowledge transfer.
* Participate in project planning, requirements gathering, and technical design discussions.
* Serve as a technical resource for application and web services support.
Continuous Improvement
* Research emerging technologies, development tools, and industry best practices.
* Recommend improvements to existing systems and software architecture.
* Support modernization and digital transformation initiatives across the university.

Hybrid Remote Work Notice
After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
