About the Job

As an NPI Test Engineer, you will help turn innovative product designs into solutions that can be built, tested, and successfully launched into production.

New Product Introduction Engineering sits at the intersection of Product R&D and Production Manufacturing. We do not design the new product itself, we engineer how that product will be validated, tested, and manufactured reliably at scale. This gives you the opportunity to work with new technology while seeing its full journey from early prototypes to a successful production launch.

In this role, you will develop automated software tests for Keysight's next generation of electronic test-and-measurement products. Your work will extend beyond software development. You will interact directly with prototypes, instrumentation, and electrical hardware to understand what needs to be measured, create effective test solutions, and troubleshoot issues across software and hardware.

You will package and transfer test solutions to our manufacturing operation, partnering with global manufacturing, engineering, and marketing teams throughout the product-development process. You will also help strengthen the processes and tools that support continuous software development, deployment, and long-term test-system reliability.

This is an opportunity to combine software development with hands-on electrical engineering and make a visible contribution to the launch of new Keysight products.

About the Team

Our NPI Engineering team brings together software, electrical, and manufacturing expertise to solve complex, hands-on technical challenges. You will be part of a multidisciplinary product-development team that works closely with R&D and global production partners to design, develop, validate, and test Keysight's real-time oscilloscopes, probes, accessories, and other advanced electronic measurement products.

The work is collaborative and varied. One day you may be developing automated test software; the next, you may be working in the lab with a prototype, analyzing an unexpected measurement, or partnering with manufacturing engineers to prepare a test solution for production. Along the way, you will deepen your knowledge of electrical measurements, instrumentation, software development, and product manufacturing, and can become a measurement expert yourself.

Because this role involves hands-on work with prototypes and instrumentation in our NPI lab, it is based onsite in Colorado Springs. We recognize that collaboration with global teams sometimes requires evening meetings, and we support flexible work schedules that help employees balance those demands.

We foster an open environment where innovation, knowledge sharing, and new ideas can thrive. Our engineers support one another, and we actively invest in mentoring, professional development, and opportunities for continued growth. Keysight also offers educational assistance, employee networking groups, fitness programs, paid time off for volunteerism, and complimentary onsite electric-vehicle charging.

You will join a supportive team of dedicated engineers who want you to learn, contribute, and succeed while helping bring new products and technologies to market.

Responsibilities

This role includes a combination of software development, hands-on test engineering, and manufacturing support. Depending on the needs of each new product introduction, your responsibilities may include:

  • Partner with product design engineers to understand how the hardware operates and define the automated tests, measurements, and algorithms required for manufacturing test.
  • Design and develop automated tests that characterize hardware performance while incorporating Design for Manufacturing (DFM) considerations.
  • Develop software that controls test-rack instrumentation, such as electrical sources and measurement equipment, as well as the device under test (DUT), such as an oscilloscope.
  • Perform hands-on test-rack connections, configurations, and DUT changes needed to develop and execute automated tests.
  • Troubleshoot issues across the complete test system, including test-rack instrumentation, DUT hardware and product software, test software, connections, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Review and validate product datasheet specifications and help translate those requirements into appropriate manufacturing test limits.
  • Partner with production engineers to package, validate, and transfer automated tests and their supporting software architecture to the production line.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including test-support materials, troubleshooting guides, training documentation, and other resources needed to support production.
  • Collaborate with cross-regional engineering teams to develop, maintain, and enhance shared software architecture and packages that support successful NPI automated-test development and transfer.
  • Help implement and maintain disciplined software-development practices, including unit-test development, regular unit testing, continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD), code review, and controlled codebase management.
  • Continuously improve and expand software-development and test-automation practices to increase reliability, maintainability, efficiency, and ease of deployment.
  • Respond to time-sensitive NPI and manufacturing-line needs by applying established Git branching, workflow, version-control, and software-release strategies to deploy software packages safely and efficiently.
  • Develop test-software release plans and schedules that align with broader product-development, NPI, and manufacturing-transfer milestones.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with an academic or professional background that combines software development with electrical or hardware engineering.
  • Typically, a minimum of 4-5 years of relevant experience in software development, test engineering, hardware test automation, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience developing and deploying software that interacts with physical hardware, along with an interest in software architecture, development, and deployment processes.
  • Experience with software development and source-control tools, such as Git or a comparable version-control system.
  • Experience developing software in C#, C++, Python, or another object-oriented programming language.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Visual Studio or a comparable integrated development environment.
  • Understanding of statistical-analysis concepts and their application to test data or hardware-performance evaluation.
  • Ability and technical aptitude to develop automated tests that evaluate hardware performance in a product-development environment.
  • Ability to clearly and concisely explain test strategies, methodologies, results, and technical decisions.
  • Ability to teach, guide, and support partner teams that use or maintain developed test solutions.
  • Knowledge of analog and digital circuit analysis and design principles.
  • Understanding of analog and digital measurement techniques.
  • Experience using electronic test and measurement equipment. Experience with oscilloscopes and probes is especially relevant to this role.
  • Interest in collaborating with cross-functional and cross-regional teams to achieve shared product development and manufacturing objectives.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, results-oriented engineering environment.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to translate high-level objectives into actionable project plans and execute them with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated analytical and technical problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify, prioritize, and resolve complex issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical issues effectively to different audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute successfully within cross-functional teams.
  • Flexibility and comfort working through ambiguity, changing requirements, and evolving project priorities.
  • Ability to organize work, manage competing priorities, and deliver results under schedule pressure.
  • Strong initiative, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
  • Collaborative approach and a constructive, team-oriented attitude.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Manufacturing-test development experience, ideally involving OpenTAP and C#.
  • Experience using Git branching, workflow, and release-management practices in a collaborative software-development environment.
  • Experience developing or maintaining automated tests using OpenTAP.
  • Experience with Atlassian tools such as Jira, Bitbucket, and Confluence.
  • Experience developing, transferring, deploying, or supporting test solutions within a manufacturing environment.
